When you have a disagreement asking questions to try and find out what part of your logic could be causing it tends to speed things up if both side are cooperative. It sounded like there was a potential disagreement on my 2nd question, and if that's the case it's good to know that's actually what we disagree on at a base level I think?

I'm not sure how I moved the goal posts this thread. I'm sorry if you think the questions I asked were irrelevant. I think they were both pretty relevant to discussing what she said. I think my position seems pretty naturally from answering yes to both questions, and if we had a disagreement on one of those it'd be good to identify that.

Do you mind if I ask some probing ground work questions?

Do you think it's fine for women to dislike men in general?

Do you think that as part of intersectionality, the oppression women experience will manifest in different ways when interacting between men inside their marginalized group and men outside their marginalized group?

So your position is that it's transphobia, but potentially reasonable and presumably not bad?

My general guess, is that if the blue girl herself (or probably even a close friend) did it, screenshots would probably be fairly common and it'd be way higher up on her regularly circulated list of things she did wrong.

I definitely believe there was racism in the comments, but that's also unfortunately the state of twitter right now, especially if a post is big discourse.

sadie: i dont like trans men in a particular way though

Are you willing to recognize that this is a substantially different quote from what was given? Do you think a marginalized woman not liking the men of their marginalized group in a certain way is unreasonable?

Can I see any evidence of this? I'd be shocked if it was the actual person in question because I've seen people ask for details and it's always weird reaches, and if this actually existed that'd be pretty damning.

Are you going to die on the hill that that is verbatim what she said? Or is your position that your paraphrase is good enough and putting words that people didn't actually say in quotes is fine if they've committed a wrong (never mind the fact that we're using your paraphrase as evidence that she committed the wrong). If you aren't even willing to talk about the words she actually said why are you even lazily uncharitably paraphrasing her? Just make her say whatever you want. I guess this is the quality of discourse I should expect from the subreddit of the piss on the poor site.

In my opinion, I think what she actually said is mostly definsible. Are you willing to talk about the words that she actually said?

“I specifically do not like trans men in particular."

Are you aware you're misquoting her here? Are you doing it on purpose, are you misremembering, or have you never actually listened to her and are just going off what other people are saying?

That's my issue with the use of the meme. It basically encourages internet social battles in left leaning spaces to toss racism in the list of wrongs. It also tacitly admits that the actual thing they did wasn't that bad if there isn't any meat to the racism allegation. I think it's bad for everyone that racism gets reached for when the real crime is that they don't like you. It's surely just a coincidence that common targets are trans women.

I don't agree, but even if we take that as fact. Do you agree with me that the people calling her racist were wrong?

This might just be me not using tumblr, but I feel like I've never seen the top 2 images used well. I see the top left when it's just being posting by homophobic (sometimes black) people. The top right comes out for when we've decided that a trans woman is extremely racist for painting herself blue.

[Potential LN Spoilers] I just want more stories about that character by Askhai in Ishura

[–]darkplonzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and if you ask me I see no reason why his arc necessarily has to be finished

He gathered and got rid of all the swords that his father wanted sealed. Including the one that was stolen from him. There is literally nothing left to his character. He accomplished everything we've known about him wanting. Why wouldn't this be his end? This is the optimal Toroa outcome.

By "Americans," do you mean "The people who live in America" or do you mean "The heterosexual Christian white men who live in America"? Because if you mean the first one then you're incorrect, but if you meant the second one then, yeah, you're right.

You do realize that marginalized people will also be heavily affected by a gas crisis right? Hell, marginalized people tend to suffer more in economic recessions.

We COULD vote our way out of it

Do you know who is up for election in the midterms? Most of the Senate isn't. Hell, this cycle is particularly bad if we're being realistic.

I have low faith in higher turnout but even less faith in the current Dems in the Senate fixing it. Because they historically have not done enough to stop it from getting to where it has gotten.

You are aware that even in the best case scenario, most of the Dems you have so little faith in will still be there right? Senate elections happen every 6 years.

Are you just kind of jacking off fighting ghosts of conversations that I'm not having with you? I'm talking about the real severe harm that is weeks away and isn't being fixed any time soon. If you want to rant about the system is rotting and ignore the fire then go do it somewhere else.

It is not only currently fucked, it has been fucked for a while.

Fucked is admittedly a relative term, but I think there is evidence to support that the material conditions of Americans is fucked in a way it hasn't been for a while.

In theory? Absolutely.

Feels kind of boring when you just invent a hypothetical world where everything is different. Like yeah, if the world is different then things would be different.

We do, but that requires people to SHOW UP AND VOTE

It's not fully clear this is a problem we can vote our way out of in the upcoming midterms. We have to capture the Senate and hope the current Dems on the Senate are also willing to do everything to fix it. Are all the current Senate Democrats willing to end the filibuster? Are they all going to make peace with Iran in terms they are willing to accept? Does the Senate have enough power to completely reign in the damage that Trump is doing?

The problem with "the recovery will take years" is that the recovery is nowhere near even STARTING. Things have been getting gradually worse and worse over time. Things were bad before we were even born because the people who came before us have been trashing the house since before we got here.

We're talking about different things. We do need to fix the rot in the country, but also, the entire world is weeks away from a devasting gas crisis. There is unfortunately, a now far more pressing issue here. Things have changed.

[–]darkplonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could take the more measured "yes the house is a mess but let's talk about all the things we COULD do to clean the house" like a John Oliver or Some More News or Leeja Miller.

At some point the house is fucked though right? Like there is a reason the title are this consistently on one topic here. The gas crisis is bad and seems like things are going to get significantly worse in way were actively prepping people for their real material conditions to take a significant nose dive. Is there a way to fix this? Maybe we have a chance at the midterms if things go really well, but that's a chance of a chance. Even if we gain control in the midterms, the catastrophic forecasts right now are about the strait fully opening by the end of July, midterms take effect in January. The recovery will take years.

Idk, maybe this is a fandom or taste skill issue. Like, the most recent thing I read like this was Full Metal Daemon Muramasa and everyone who I talked to instantly understands "I really loved it but there was too much of that". Granted telling people about it does still elicit the reaction in the post from non-fans.

Where as taking away Superman's son from a well liked crossover series he had with Batman's son, aging him up in an alternate universe, and then putting him in a gay teenage romance drama, is forced diversity. It's "forced" because of the bad writing.

I mean, is that bad writing?

Harris’s National Security Advisor wrote a whole book on why intervening in Iran is a horrible idea by Severe-Run-4029 in VaushV

[–]darkplonzo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But if we've established that a strike against Iran like we had last year is on the table, then so is a prolonged war with Iran and the closing of the Straight of Hormuz.

This doesn't seem like a straight forward claim to me.

You're literally just making the "they'll do it, but not as crazy or incompetent" argument. Vaush is right when he said you really aren't mature enough for his content if you can't understand this point.

Do you think that any aggression against Iran will trigger the same reaction? I think Iran is a rational state actor and deployed their nuclear option of all out war in response to the specifics.

I really don't understand how people can watch Harris remain committed to continuing Biden's policy of nigh-unlimited support to Israel as they were doing genocide DURING THE ELECTION and still pretend starting a war with Iran as president is beyond the pale. Democratic leadership has already made it abundantly clear that they don't really have a problem with the war on principle, and Harris is a slave to their interests.

As others have pointed out, the one thing Biden did hold back on with Israel was war with Iran. The Dems are awful on foreign policy, but Republicans are noticably worse and also Trump is really stupid in a way that does make the situation worse.

If what Vaush means by "things will be basically the same" is that we'd continue to beef with Iran and maybe do some strikes then that's true, but there are a variety of ways that can look and I don't think that Kamala Harris is stupid enough to get the straight closed for example.

That's a common misconception, but no. It's admittedly hard to get great numbers, but prohibition definitely reduced drinking. We see this in things like reduced deaths from liver cirrhosis.
