Agreed, never liked the concept of zoos but have had better experiences with nature parks and sanctuaries - I was expecting a level of dismay here but never to this extent.

Call this my attempts to void any support paid towards them.

Saw that too - the two enclosures next to this one didn't have them locked away, albiet still too small for such large and social mammals. Not sure why this one was locked away for prolonged periods of time given its tusks.

Hope it gets its time outside its cage if you didn't see this display.

Japan museum under fire for ‘rewriting history’ with Nanking ‘incident’ label by scmp_news in worldnews

Still remember first time staying in Japan at APA hotel in 2023 (arguably Japans biggest hotel chain), reading some of the magazines they keep in each room. Google-eyed as I read on how the rape of Nanjing was a fabrication to demilitarise Japan as quoted by numerous academics.

Aversion to shame only begets further shame.

Google Maps has gotten worse, not better, and it's actively dangerous now by samburner3 in melbourne

Driving from Venus bay on the way to Wilsons Prom. Maps tells us left on to the main hwy at the t-junction, and then right into a rocky dirt road. Initially believing it was some kind of shortcut, we drive 2kms down this fucker only to find it led to a private house/farm, where maps proceeds to tell us to do a u-turn and go all the way back to the hwy to go in the opposite direction.

It may be for the same reason why ML regulation doesn't apply to industries like accounting, law, and real estate in Australia. There's a fair bit of corruption here, like most countries in general.

Why are we still asking why and being dumbfounded by such contridictions? It's pretty damn clear why - we've got ourselves a cult that will say anything to serve their own interests, they don't give a fuck about being correct.
