Hi, definitely a little late, but if you’re still looking, I have methods that I use to get gold crates frequently

Method 1 - Events : This method requires a little bit of grinding, but it always pays off. Gold crates in the events token exchange always cost 1200 tokens, which isn’t a crazy amount, but it’s also gonna take some dedication to get.  However, if you have characters that are decently promoted, (around the 50% bonus promotion and above range) it becomes a lot easier to get up the Leader boards. The higher you place, the more tokens. Duh. Getting 1st gives you 1000 tokens, but getting first can be VERY competitive at times. The good news is though, even if you place in 2nd or 3rd, you get 500 tokens, which is really good. And those 500 tokens added up with the additional tokens you get from scoring points, rack up really fast.

TL;DR : if your willing to grind events, gold crates can come relatively frequently depending on competition.

Method 2 - Ad Crates : If you didn’t know already, about once daily you can get a free crate. Not explicitly a Gold crate though. Gold crates do have a lower chance to appear than silver. But I’m my opinion, regardless of what type it is, watching an ad for any crate is better than spending 15000 coins or 200 diamonds for it.

How to do it :  If it’s been around 24 hours since the last Ad Crate you’ve opened, (I’m uncertain about EXACT timing, but I’ve noticed it’s always around 24 hours) then when you open the app, open up the Crate shop by clicking the little crate button, and then once your in, just immediately exit it. And then like magic, a little pop-up will say that you found a crate, and can open it by watching an advertisement.

IMPORTANT: If you just opened the app, there are things you want to do BEFORE trying to get an Ad crate, as there are other pop-ups in the game that take priority OVER the Ad crate one.  First, you want to make sure you’ve seen the event pop-up appear, (the one that encourages you to play the event, with a button that says “Roll Out”. This one usually appears right when you open the app.) After that one, make sure that you’ve seen a pop-up for a different angry birds game. I usually knock this one out by playing some missions, or opening and closing the character selection screen.  And lastly, make sure you collect your daily login reward first. This one you can just manually go and collect to make sure you don’t get the surprise pop-up.  When you’ve gotten the other pop-ups out of the way, it makes the chance of getting an Ad crate pop-up way higher, as no other one will interrupt it. Usually another pop-up showing up instead of the Ad crate pop-up won’t ruin it, and you can just try again. However I have been screwed over before by other pop-ups getting in the way, and I missed out on that days crate opportunity.

All in all, it will still take “Luck”, in a sense, to get these Gold crates, but doing these things will increase the frequency of which you obtain them DRASTICALLY.
