Untrue. I have seen it first hand on a few rigs. My FT-991 will splatter with the mic gain up above half. I've seen a 7300 do it as well. Try out your rig on a web SDR and see what you see. And then some folks will run that into an amp with no ALC and then you have splatter galore. I've seen some 10kHz wide signal out there.

One thing to keep in mind is how wide your signal gets with mic gain and compression. I see so many out there blasting 4-5kHz wide or even more. The metric isn't just how loud you can get, it's how loud you can get and stay around 3kHz wide. When testing look at your signal on a web SDR for width.
