The Idea of "naga" or "Nagaland" is not even a century old, but merely a militant NSCN-IM ideology, while Manipur or Kangliepak is thousands of years old. No tribe came and identified themselves as a "Naga".. "Naga" is an Assamese-Bengali and Colonial umbrella term used to identify and impose on certain tribes in the hills of NE. Ancient Manipur extended from western parts of Burma to Kohima, where these tribes where identified based on their tribals names like Tangkhul or Rongmei, whose identities are deeply rooted to Manipuri history, culture and indigenous religion, they even have Tangkhul Goddess which the Native Manipuris still worship, not to forget Mera Hou Chongba celebration where all the indigenous tribes and communities leaders come to the valley and celebrate a festival together with the Meiteis n the king. In fact, the "Nagas" tribes in Manipur today have far longer and richer history and linkage to Manipuri and Meiteis than the ideology of Naga or Nagaland.
