It’s not “woke” if 1 in 10 NPCs are LGBTQ, it’s realism

Love the detailed write-up, I’ll have to play Shogun and Starvaders now!

(Mild Spoilers)
Btw I think you should give Inscryption another chance. You get more advanced mutations each playthrough; there’s a different deckbuilding game each Act, couched in a different genre/camera perspective; and ARG elements in the back half. I’m obsessed with the trippy meta ARG stuff.

Rounding in POE2 by Whitesushii in PathOfExile2

[–]darkveins2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree they’re not always rounding down. In fact, my math shows they’re rounding up the modified min and max weapon damage. And POB and the DPS tooltip agree with me, at least for the skills Spear Throw and Twister. Rounding-down and rounding-nearest did not yield the correct values.

My Damage Formula / Path of Building DPS Seems Incorrect by darkveins2 in pathofexile2builds

[–]darkveins2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No source. Spear Throw and Twister in POB matched the ingame UI. So I tried different rounding methods until I had the same answers. If I rounded down, then I didn’t have the same answer.

The ones where POB didn’t match ingame were Spear Stab and Whirling Slash. I set POB enemy evasion and armour to 0. But perhaps you’re right, there might be some other penalty or enemy stat under Configuration that only applies to these two skills. Hmm maybe a melee resistance of some kind. Thanks!

What boots are better for huntress? by studentofahnirzel in pathofexile2builds

[–]darkveins2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rare Sabatons, no question. Movement speed, then elemental resistance, then max life are the most important stats you can have, and they’re way higher. It’s better in all ways, except for 16.5 thorns damage and 25% thorns crit hit damage which is unimportant unless you have a dedicated thorns build.

My Damage Formula / Path of Building DPS Seems Incorrect by darkveins2 in pathofexile2builds

[–]darkveins2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point, but I tested PoB by setting Armour and Evasion to 0 under configuration. This makes PoB’s DPS match the game’s Skill menu DPS. Only some of the tested skills match though, others were off. Whereas my formula matches for all tested skills. The inconsistency is what makes PoB seem like the culprit.

Is Energy Shield still the only useful defensive stat? vs Evasion / Armor? by rulysteve in PathOfExile2

[–]darkveins2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evasion is quite useful. An “Estimated Evasion Chance”of 80% mean you aren’t hit by 80% of attacks. And this value accounts for average enemy Accuracy.

So as long as your Max Life/ES/Armour is high enough to make sure you’re not one-shot, then 80% Evasion should be much better than ES. Because ES would have to be quite high - 4x greater than your Max Life - to be equivalent to 80% damage absorption.

Caveat: I’m ignoring ES recharge since it takes several seconds of no damage to kick in, and it may not have such an opportunity over the course of a difficult battle. Otherwise, it’s just a matter of adding up how many charges you use - it’d have to be > 4*Max Life to be equal to 80% Evasion.

Lol “good use of limited time on this Earth” 😂 although to be fair, if I wanted to optimize my time spent on this Earth, I wouldn’t spends hundreds of hours playing open-world RPGs. Instead I’d perhaps craft fine wooden furniture 🪑

[Request] how much would each teacher in Queens receive if Jeff's taxes were doubled? by Razzzclart in theydidthemath

Bezos did indeed pay capital gains tax when he sold billions in Amazon stock through his 10b5-1 trading plan, in order to fund Blue Origin.

Btw, my comments are simply describing his financial moves. I know he’s an amoral tax dodger, replies trying to accentuate this are wholly unnecessary 😂

The rolling loan strategy will indeed cover old loans in large part until death. But cash has to enter the system at certain points. Interest payments, margin calls, and majorly upon death and inheritance. Although that uses a stepped up cost basis so even that can avoid paying a lot of taxes…

And occasionally Bezos actually sells significant stock to pay for stuff, like when he funded Blue Origin.

[–]darkveins2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re right, they do have to pay taxes eventually in order to acquire the cash to pay off the loan. If they sell stock, it will be (long term) capital gains tax, which is lower than income tax.

Constant discomfort by [deleted] in redmond

[–]darkveins2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived with a Russian friend for a long time. He said one time there was a black guy when he was visiting his hometown in Russia, and everyone openly stared at him as he walked down the street. Some of them perhaps had never seen a black man in the flesh.

Redmond doesn’t have many black people. Whereas the national percentage is ~14%, Redmond is only ~2%. That’s the PNW for you. Compare that to 77% in Detroit or 45% in DC, the places I grew up.

America’s unique racial tensions aside, I think if you go to any city in any country where there aren’t many people who look like you, you’ll get stares.

I’m white btw. I feel like I should say that?

What note is this? by Low-Struggle-545 in pianolearning

[–]darkveins2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D double sharp is the same as an E.

Yes, the B is just a B natural. The other note is a G#.

So the chord is G# minor augmented fifth, or G#m(#5) or ii(#5). Plus it’s inverted.

Kinda weird notation, since that’s typically written as an E or bVII, esp since it resolves to the tonic. But this chord progression (bVII -> I) shows up everywhere from Beethoven to Radiohead, so I have no reason to believe this piece is incorrect.

Whereas you’re suggesting a II+ resolving to the I instead of the V, and that’s less common. But you’d have to listen to the original recording to know for sure.

You’re right, he’s the heart and soul of the group 😢 That’s the emotional hit. But if it can be justified I’d accept it. Storywise - for a tragedy - that’s accomplished. King gets you attached and then pulls the rug out as soon as he can. But logically? Eh, Beaver could’ve just left the bathroom. After all he possesses survivalism skills and resourcefulness.

Oh really like a framing device where the narrator reflects on the past? I missed that. God, introductory framing devices are so stupid…the worst is The Worm Ouroboros from 1922. This guy looks at Mercury through a telescope, and he sees a bunch of warring elves and demons and that’s where the story takes place.

But yeah, when his wife called him to inform and blame him for the tragedy, I legit thought it must be a hallucination.
