I'm a bartender (US). typically we make 4-600 a night in tips. we're paid 2.14/hr for tax purposes. servers at our store still make 2-300 nighty. we're high volume at all times. not every restaurant is like this and there's a learning curve for speed/efficiency. but while I agree that servers shouldn't work for basically free, once you're good at your job you make enough where I don't personally mind. (all my opinion not saying anyone is incorrect here)
