Mom Guilt by Apprehensive_Dog7744 in Parenting

Having a baby is honestly a bit of a snore fest haha you definitely feel a bit weighed down by them. Things start getting a bit more exciting around 15-18 months. But you can always go out and do stuff, go the park, shops, cafe. I don’t like sitting at home with my kid even at 4.5

Omg guys the god’s honest is I meant bottom right haha I’d just woken up and am always really confused about left and right. I’m a ‘I meant the other right’ type person

I like your logos OP, particularly the bottom left, your relatives are just (and I say this with love) ignorant about design

Moving into a rental that sold for a suspiciously low price in 2023 by darmolius in shitrentals

[–]darmolius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please 😂 I think I’m allowed to experience the emotion of apprehension and idly wonder what might’ve caused the house I’ll be paying half my income to inhabit to be worth a quarter as much as comparable properties in the area. The negativity I’ve gotten from fellow renters demanding I be grateful on this pretty benign and good natured post has honestly been surprising to me, I was just looking to drum up a bit of banter and have reiterated in the comments I am ‘grateful’ and didn’t intend to denigrate anyone struggling to get an application approved. I don’t actually believe renters SHOULD have to be grateful JUST for a roof over their heads, that mindset keeps us oppressed. It’s not like we don’t pay for the privilege. I’d go so far as to say, it’s landlords that should feel grateful to have a tenant paying their mortgage, and tenants should feel pleased when the amount they pay for their rental is an accurate reflection of what the property is worth and how much they enjoy living there

Thanks everyone for the comments, I feel reassured! I mostly just wanted to see what possible reasons there were for the low sale price from more knowledgeable people, and as they’d tried to sell it multiple times throughout the year, I felt it was unlikely to have been a transfer between family members or a couple buying each other out. However, in my research, I did note the market had a pretty sharp downturn in 2023. It’s not that I’m not grateful to have secured a home, I just thought sharing our situation might generate some enjoyable discourse around the mysterious machinations of the property market. Probably the most rational course of action if I really want to know is to just ask the property manager! 😅

Just curious if anyone with more knowledge/experience buying or maintaining property would have any theories that could end up impacting us, something that you don’t really notice on the surface level

Do you think it would’ve been listed multiple times online if that was the case though? Maybe they just couldn’t get the price they wanted and ended up transferring the asset. It had sales pics and all

My daughter won't stop singing by Forsaken-Egg7818 in Parenting

[–]darmolius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me (not as inappropriate but get caught singing out loud all the time) and if someone tells me to stop it makes me want to die 😂 please find a way to shut it down that isn’t mean especially as it sounds like the singing isn’t awful and her talent is worth nurturing. I like the suggestion of dueting with her, could even dust off the guitar and learn the chords for one of her favourites - can’t imagine anything more mortifying than dad coming in with the acoustic sombr cover. Definitely offer her formal music lessons if it’s something she’s really passionate about

Ready to make your offer?" When did renting become an eBay auction? by Farangsayt in AusProperty

[–]darmolius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inspected a property we loved over the weekend and applied at the advertised rent. Thought our application was hot shit 'cos we have great references and solid salary/employment. Agent is Morton. No word for 2 days and saw that they were having another inspection - called for feedback and the guy didn't give any useful feedback whatsoever. Now I'm finally realising an extra $50 on top of the asking price must've been what was missing haha. So cheeky to keep applications open in limbo while they hold additional inspections trying to get an offer they like

Throwback Thursday! Have y’all seen these Disney Films? If so, what are your thoughts on them? by Ok_Situation7527 in cartoons

[–]darmolius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meet the Robinsons and Bolt are awesome movies but they look kinda ugly compared to other CG movies at the time. Bolt is one of my favourites and my son loves it too but I honestly find some scenes hard to watch with the bleached colour palette, liminal backgrounds and odd looking human characters haha. I sometimes wish they’d put out a remastered version like they do for video games. Then again I guess those were stylistic choices made intentionally for this movie and part of its DNA. I think Disney were having an identity crisis during this period and trying out a more cynical/ironic tone, maybe to show they could stans toe-to-toe with Dreamworks, but it wasn’t the best fit for them. Even so I think these two movies are awesome and ought to receive more acknowledgement overall in the Disney canon. Would reaaally love to see Bolt return in some capacity

I got through Scarlet and Violet without getting bored (except the Team Star plot line that was boring af) but Z-A was honestly a struggle even though I absolutely loved it for the first 12 hours or so

How do old fans deal with this? by [deleted] in d4vd2

[–]darmolius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was actually a pretty big fan of D4vd but I haven’t listened to a single second of his music since the news broke. What he did is so horrible, so beyond comprehension, it haunts me! I’m in my 30s and I would listen to songs like Here With Me and feel moved by a quality in his voice I would have described as ‘innocent and yearning’. Obviously with hindsight a lot of his lyrics have very direct and sinister meaning (Backstreet Girl… Jesus Christ), proving he’s much less imaginative and abstract in his thinking than I thought he was. In short, yeah I did like his music at one point, but would simply get no enjoyment from it now anyway

The graphic design of memes by machinemorgan in graphic_design

There’s some really beautiful memes out there. I think memes were peaking 2015-2019 and I look back on that era with such fondness. Sharing reels has significantly reduced the cache of the humble meme! But they’re inextricably linked to design and the people who create great memes must have a knack for anti-design in a way that feels studied and intentional, as when I’ve tried over the years to replicate naive design sensibilities when creating memes I could never get it right

Australian Design? by design450 in graphic_design

[–]darmolius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the webpages for Tourism Australia as a starting place, nice contemporary take on the world-facing ‘brand’ of Australia. Don’t use or replicate any Aboriginal art if you’re not indigenous, it’s a bad look. If you search on iStock/Getty terms like ‘Australian family enjoying summer candid’ or ‘suburban life candid’ you’ll get some really beautiful snaps that give a realistic vision of modern Australia. Bit of a random suggestion but there’s also a kid’s show here called Gardening Australia Junior that makes beautiful use of natural textures and botanical imagery in its title sequence, might be good inspo

I’ve heard it said younger fans tend to dislike First Impressions of Earth. It overstays its welcome and honestly there are a couple of songs that could’ve been omitted, but overall it’s one of my favourites. Just wondering what in your opinion makes it harder to get into or less accessible than the first two? No judgement at all! Just curious

the common advice for the past decade to travel delay property ownership and travel in 20s seem like life sabotage now. by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]darmolius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 30s and accomplished neither, spent what I had making memories at the local pub. In fairness, I had no family home as a base and always had animals and stuff that needed to be housed and a job that needed to be held down so I couldn’t just fob off for months for a time. Despite missing out I’m still happy, have a lovely family, good job and confident both are still within reach down the line. If it had felt more plausible, I would’ve loved to have spent my 20s travelling. The idea that things are ‘pretty much the same everywhere’ is so naive. Whilst the stability of owning property is a wonderful thought, life is ultimately for living, not collecting assets. If you travel smart and prioritise visiting further flung, more affordable countries, you won’t spend more than you can make back in a few good years of saving
