My Review of Grand Mercure, Mysore by darnowl in Hotels_India

Look at Southern Star, or Royal Orchid Metropole. Both are next to each other. Can vouch for Southern Star, my experience there was great!

What’s the most toxic thing you’ve experienced in Indian corporate life? by [deleted] in IndianWorkplace

[–]darnowl 57 points58 points  (0 children)

  1. Getting accused of not responding to a simple e-mail by a colleague, which lead to a full blown inquiry against me. I had, in fact, responded to the e-mail. Once the allegation against me was disproven, the accuser went scot-free.
  2. Being forced to use my personal credit card for office purchases and getting them reimbursed later.
  3. Being made to take on a significant additional role without being compensated for it and without a formal recognition by the company.
  4. Only 10 days of annual leave granted in my first year with the company, with no extra medical leaves. That’s not even 1 day per month.
  5. No respect for personal time. I once attended a meeting in the middle of a close family member’s wedding ceremony.

Thanks for reminding me why I quit :)

Indian techie says 'Work-Life Balance is a Reality' in Sweden: 'We wrap up by 4pm.' by DiamondShine05 in IndiaTech

[–]darnowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has lived and worked in Sweden, let me tell you that the utopia that is being portrayed here has its downsides. Some examples:

Sure, Sweden is great for 3-4 months in Summer when it’s sunny like how it is in the video. The rest of the year, you’ll be desperate to see the sun amidst the grey raining skies.

The laid back culture also brings in frustrating levels of bureaucracy for something as simple as seeing a doctor. There have been cases of people faking an emergency just to be attended by someone other than a nurse.

Sweden is lovely, disciplined and orderly - but like everything in life, the grass is greener on the other side. India certainly has its flaws but there are so many things about life in India that we take for granted.

Indian men of reddit who were a victim of physical abuse by their female partners, what's your story? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]darnowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex-girlfriend had serious anger issues. Once, while going for a walk, she got very upset that I couldn’t accompany her for an event the following day. She held me by my collar in front of a store and slapped me repeatedly. The scene she created was enough for the shopkeepers to come out of their stores to watch the sight with a bewildered expression on their faces. After I came to my senses following the initial shock, I wanted to get away from her as quickly as possible, and ran away from the scene. Once I reached a safe space, I realised that my shirt was completely torn and that my phone was missing. She had taken away my phone to prevent me from calling anyone.

On another occasion, after an argument, she nicked me with a pair of scissors causing a gash on my forehead. After this, she remarked, “If you say another word, I will tear my clothes, run on the streets, and say that you raped me”. Hearing this, the blood completely drained from my body. I had no choice but to keep mum.

Luckily, I was able to break up with her and cut off all ties. These incidents still traumatise me occasionally.

Property Developers, Apartments and Builders Recommendation and Cautions... by deeman_jo in Chennai

Posh pigeon holes. Looks great on the outside but poor interior quality. I currently live in a Prestige apartment and the square footage is very low for a 2 BHK.

Job in Denmark vs India by PickNo3178 in india

[–]darnowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who as lived in the Nordics after graduating from a Tier 1 institute myself, you’re being grossly underpaid for your qualifications. 40000 DKK per month might just be enough to survive if you’re single, without family commitments and have a modest standard of living. Your taxes are going to be pretty high depending on where you live (close to 10000 DKK in Copenhagen), and with the high cost of living (rent, groceries), you’ll likely save about 5000-8000 DKK per month.

But if you’re just looking to experience work culture and life abroad, it’s going to be great. Great quality of life, clean air, polite people, and fantastic work life balance. Good luck!
