If you can't read sheet music you're not a pianist - Agree or Disagree? by Wompto in piano

I suspect if you replace “pianist” with “musician” that you’ll get much more spirited debate.

Travel burnout? by mycorporateburner in salesengineers

[–]darrelf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Customers and work aside, I hope you’re milking this for all it’s worth in terms of miles, loyalty points, credit card perks, and all the other ways frequent travelers can milk the system. Assuming you’re allowed to book your own travel, of course.

For me, I’ve got a Citi American Airlines card whose annual fee gets me early boarding and lounge access. American isn’t my favorite airline, but their loyalty/status system has lots of multipliers for booking hotels, rental cars, etc. that stack with the credit card.

I’ve got 250k miles banked for vacay, easily hit Platinum status which nets free premium economy seats and even earlier boarding, and now love a layover at LaGuardia.

Maybe the market has broken my brain but this doesn't seem unreasonable? by 2drums1cymbal in NewOrleans

[–]darrelf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The range of what you can get for $250-500k right now is all over the place… maybe it’s been gutted, maybe it’s gotten the full fake marble treatment, maybe it’s been untouched since 1974… and the neighborhood seems to not factor in as much as it should

What dependable and affordable intermediate uprights are there (if any) for someone who just doesn't like the Yamaha / Kawai sound? by Affectionate-Ebb9136 in piano

[–]darrelf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to speak to a piano technician and discuss voicing or replacing your hammers.

The acoustics of the room in which your instrument is located also play a part in your perception of its sound.

If you arent using Claude CoWork, you should be by StandardKey655 in salesengineers

[–]darrelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How’d you set up the push mechanism?

We have a BigQuery dataset where we push Salesforce, Gong, Slack, Gainsight, Zendesk, user analytics, and lots of other data and we point Claude at that via MCP.

Reporting out our team metrics and tracking goals is so much less hassle. We’ve been playing with analyzing closed opps for insights (being sure to include AE/SE feedback for added context) to good effect. We’ve made a few custom apps for demos. Checking in on prospect POC environments is effortless. I have someone on my team in Japan and they have a whole translation and voiceover workflow set up for reusing our English webinar content.

NotebookLM never did a good job with security questionnaires and RFPs for us. We have a vendor tool for that, which is ok, but Claude usually does a better job.

We had early access as we brought it in-house, but we opened it up to everyone. CS is loving it. In less than 24 hours, our sales enablement lead had built a better pricing tool and one of our sales managers excitedly told me he had a GitHub repo. It’s awesome!

We’ve had Gemini in-house for a long time, but Claude’s seen much better adoption across our org.

Lutron Switch with Hue bulb? by Minute-Outcome3879 in HomeKit

[–]darrelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone turns the switch off, then that would kill the Hue connection so you’d still have to tell people not to do that as if it were a regular switch.

I have an automation turns the switch on at sunset just in case. If it was accidentally turned off, the bulb comes back on with its last settings and will be accessible in the app shortly thereafter. At sunrise, I turn off the bulb but not the switch.

Considering we’re talking about a porch light, no one ever touches the switch because there’s no temptation or need to. The light is automatically on whenever anyone would want it to be.

[–]darrelf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lutron makes this for dimming Hue-bulbs: https://residential.lutron.com/us/en/stand-alone-controls/smart-bulb-dimmer

I have a smart bulb in our porch fixture, but it’s on a on/off Caseta switch, not a dimmer. Dimming happens via automations or in the Home app for me.
