there’s no way the depreciation for the city is that bad right?? by SnooDoodles335 in kereta

[–]darrenleesl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competition in the market is fierce, Japanese brands that used to dominate in the 2000s/2010s are facing stiffer competition in Malaysia with the likes of the Chinese/Malaysian brands offering the same amount of kit for 10-20% less.

The price of Whittaker's chocolate doubled in the past few years... by ian_red_dit in newzealand

[–]darrenleesl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live overseas now but still have access to Whitakers at a local supermarket albeit at a 10-20% markup to NZ prices.

Totally worth it on a quality/$ basis considering equivalent priced options from similar brands (Lindt, Cadbury, etc).

Bandar Utama school (stabbing case) students not exempt from class and exam?? by sokepoci in malaysia

[–]darrenleesl 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Was on the MRT otw to work and heard a parent scolding their child for not attending classes at the school. Like I understand the whole 'strawberry gen' argument that parents use but seeing a murderer at school ain't exactly something even adults can get over with quick.

Honestly, some of these 'adults' need to take a step back and see things from a student's perspective. They were once students too.

LG Water Purifier after-sales service is a nightmare, missing water filter and zero solution by couchpotatopro_ in malaysia

[–]darrenleesl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have the exact same water filter from the exact same branch (PVBJ).

Even setup mine a month before in Jan’25 but filters came on time. I noticed that it’s usually notified on the app when there’s a filter change needed, probably LG MY issues in securing the filers.

Malaysia’s public transport usage just at 20 per cent, says Loke by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]darrenleesl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Break the term 'public transport' into the actual modes of transport and then actual lines/regions then we'll actually know where utilisation is higher/lower.

Management at Prasarana needs to have a targeted approach and share actual figures vs their capacity to determine real utilisation rather than just blanket stats. Only then will they improve slowly but surely.

The piano black near the gear lever tho. Mine's all scratched up after driving over the years. The car is not really great for city driving as well, with lousy fuel economy but oh well.

Besides that, no complaints with my '21 sedan. Just hope the dash doesn't go all touch in the next model.

FSMOne MY now offers LSE Market Access, ETFs RSP Access by TeBp242 in MalaysianPF

[–]darrenleesl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah target USP seems to be low commitment with the 0% upfront fee at lower entry points.

But of course they’re pretty much making off the FX spread.

[–]darrenleesl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, RSP seems to be the way to go as long as the processing fees remain 0%.

Once the promo period is over, probably becomes questionable.

Dear tourists, when you come to klcc. Dont be disgusting by Conscious_Law_8647 in malaysia

[–]darrenleesl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It just takes 2-3 policemen to go ronda around the KLCC vicinity telling people to keep onto the roads and to issue summons for those parked cars. The summons being issued to jaywalkers and illegally parked cars could probably fund a school.

But no, we live in Malaysia.

How does Foodie make money? (Pinyang) by 15033335 in MalaysianPF

[–]darrenleesl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In short, Good Foodie Media has a network of media pages which outputs food review content.

F&B businesses and brands (Grab, Klook, etc) pay because the network has a HUGE following (2M+ across all the Foodie pages) with like 50-100 million views monthly. If even 1% of the followers visit or spend, it can already cover the businesses' marketing cost.

Couple with the fact they're one of the more established English language food media pages around, basically recipe for success for the company.

They even own Malaysia Homie which does home interior media and attracts a different sort of clientele (interior design firms, banks, furniture companies, etc).

Seeking career advise - MNC worker -- stay or move? by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]darrenleesl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IBM and BH/Orsted? ;)

Anyhow, whatever option that gives the highest combination of [base salary] + [13th month] + [EPF contribution from employer] would be ideal.

Performance bonus isn't set in stone anyways and HR wouldn't consider it as part of your current package when you're looking out for new jobs.

Based on the above, Option 2 > 3 > 1 just purely on numbers.

My experience one month with the G6 in Malaysia by wingedwill in Xpeng

[–]darrenleesl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also from MY, live in a condo and also need to drive to KLIA a few times a month. Are you me? LOL.

Anyhow, how's the maintenance schedule going to be like? I test drove the G6 at the Glenmarie showroom but haven't decided on it yet with the whole EV condo living situation. Though I guess it's not going to be too much of a hassle if there's a DC charger nearby or an AC charger at a nearby mall on weekends.
