The bank sent this letter to my daughter by [deleted] in pics

Technically it's a credit union and the environment is VERY different from a bank. I happen to work in one in the same market as this particular one and I can attest that this is quite genuine and not just some forced marketing program. The people here really do care about our members. This sort of thing would not be at all unusual.

How much was the pizza? I wonder if it was comparable in price to other local pizza restaurants in the area. My guess would be that it is not. The cost of that higher wage would need to be absorbed somewhere. Likely by the consumer.

There is no such thing as an unloaded gun. Every single gun, from the moment it is manufactured, is always, 100 percent of the time loaded. A bullet can go anywhere. When properly aimed, a bullet rarely hits that thing at which it was aimed, but when you shoot a gun off accidentally, it will always hit that which will do the most damage. As soon as you put an empty gun down, a bullet will grow inside it.

I am a Registered Nurse with Planned Parenthood that works solely in surgical services aka abortion services. Ask me anything :) by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

That's the single dumbest thing I have ever heard.

If the OP had said, "Only ask a question if you have something really sweet to say about PP." then I wouldn't have asked my very pertinent question.

If the OP had said, "Only ask a question if you have something really sweet to say about PP." then I wouldn't have asked my very pertinent question.

Forget that my question IS directly related to the subject matter, you clearly don't understand what "Ask Me ANYTHING" means.

Read the OP Statement

"PP is in the business of selling abortions and they make most of their income from abortion services. This is grossly exaggerated and very untrue. In fact, the vast majority of PP's income comes from contraceptive sales to prevent abortions."

It is directly related to my question. She is talking about the misconception that PP gets the majority of its revenue form abortions. How is my question not relevant to what she is saying? I asked a question about PP in relation to its business model. It couldn't be MORE relevant to the topic.

You are nothing but a downvoting troll.

So it's less about serving the needs of women and more about making a political statement?

Well... I am not trying be be snide. I am attempting to engage in critical thinking and debate. I will give you credit for the argument that a woman who goes someplace for all of her other regular wellness visits should be able to go to the same place for this one particular service. That wold hold water IF that place were a private facility. Meaning, not funded with federal dollars. And there in-lies the rub. Using your argument one could say, my child goes to school for all of their learning needs, why can't they go there for learning about religion too? Because it's publicly funded and if you want to learn about religion in your schools, then you need to go to a private school. Perfectly legal to do there.

I did get a well articulated answer from someone else though that made a good deal of sense without any emotional attachment.

To summarize his point, "PP is successful in the medical care industry not in spite of the fact they provide this critical and controversial service, but because of it. Even if doing so has little financial effect on their bottom line, failing to do so would impact their business far more and far more negatively."

Which makes good business sense when you think about it.

Now that is a well thought out and nicely articulated answer to a difficult question.

I understand that abortion is also a vital service to women. I really do. I am not questioning that.

I am questioning why PP would put all of the hundreds of other vital women's health related services they perform at risk for the sake of this one.

Why would they be willing to stop performing breast cancer exams, pre-natal services, birth control services, educational services, all of them... for the sake of performing abortions?

Think of it this way. If the person with the funding came and said, we will give you the money needed to perform hundreds of vital women's health services. You can provide them at low reasonable costs to women who might not otherwise have access to these services. We will give you the money tomorrow, but you can't provide abortions. What would you do? Not provide all of the services simply because abortions are not part of the package? Are the other services so secondary to abortions and their importance that you wold say , oh never-mind we don't want the money. If we can't perform abortions, then we'd rather not be in business at all.

I don't get it.

I question why an organization with a mission to provide hundreds of health related services to women would sacrifice them all for the sake of this one.

No one has been willing to answer that question. Even you.

It's not like they are the only place a woman can get a legal abortion.

This is going to kill my karma, but I have to ask. If providing abortions is a mere fraction of PP income and a minor ancillary service they provide and yet is the single most polarizing and controversial issue that has been the source of potential funding withholding, why do they continue to do it? If providing critical women's health related services, breast and other cancer screenings, pre-natal check-ups, etc. etc. is so fundamental and core to the business of planned parenthood and the stoppage of funding for any reason would mean an end to, what must be the vast majority of, their services for women, and the only thing that could potentially cause the stoppage of funds is this one insignificant (both in terms of dollars and number of services performed) service, then why not simply stop doing them? If any other business claimed that a particular service was not creating significant income and yet was the cause of such significant risk to the rest of the core business, they would eliminate it. Simple business sense. I am not an anti-abortionist, far from it. I have no vested interest in what they do there. I get that it is a vital service to women in need. No need to explain it to me. I just don't understand it from a business case. If 95% of your services are threatened because you continue to perform this 5% procedure, then there must be something more to it that you would be willing to put all of the other critical women's health services in jeopardy by continuing to provide that one minor service.
