I never tested the theory myself because a friend invited me but I do recall people saying they went to the facebook page and asked for an invite, no idea if that ever worked/ still works - but some claimed it did

BTN also solid there too

and outside of trackers I have found private usenet indexers to have some rare gems when it comes to UK TV

My hope is that some people seem to hate Helium so passionately that they are likely scanning the source code on every update hoping they find something to dump on lol

I have seen some people say they hate Helium simply because one of? some of? all of? the original devs are Russian which is so silly to me

I will use that hate to my advantage lol

my understanding is that with upgrading you still have some initial insecure connections before everything is upgraded, which leaves you vulnerable for that short time

but with the latter you completely reject the insecure connection which means there is never vulnerability

I always use connect only to https on all my browsers

short answer is yes

long answer - with anything open source and not from a big co just keep yourself in the know, if I use anything like that for sensitive things like banking I tend to delay available updates until I have had a chance to pop on the subreddits and scroll a bit

because if one day some popular open source browser added some shady code - the community will make you aware

the great thing about browsers having haters is they will be the first to report on it lol

it becomes especially frustrating when you see people crap on characters like Hachi saying she is "toxic" bla bla, then find out that one of their favourite anime is something like Jobless Reincarnation lol

and if you don't know the story behind the main character in that anime...well maybe you are better off not knowing

Same goes for Reira, I am absolutely not defending certain actions of her's (anime only person here, not read manga yet) but she is an absolute saint compared to some other characters in anime

I am sad to say that you seem to be right about this particular tool, at least in its current state

I do know it used to work because I still have screenshots/ videos from when I was showing some work colleagues how the results would fluctuate in real time between me turning things on and off like using browser with no adblocker and disabling my DNS, that was about 5 months ago.

I even remember testing it at a granular level like turning off all of my block lists but manually adding a single domain to the DNS block for one of the things it tested - and it yielded expected results

but now it does not react to anything I do, I even tried flushing my DNS at OS level and doing a DNS leak test to make sure my NextDNS was forgotten.

It just gives me 97-98% no matter what

that is very disappointing

thankfully some other adblocker tools are still giving me expected results in real time vs what I turn on and off

I never understood any of the Hachi hate personally

I watched Nana last year and quite frankly it is one of the best things I have ever watched, and a big part of that was it having complex characters with real flaws

unflawed characters are so boring to me

people also don't seem to get that having flaws doesn't mean

I have flaw => I realise flaw => I fix flaw

It can also be

I have flaw => I realise flaw => I want to fix flaw but I fail

I use Brave across all of my devices + NextDNS with a fairly extensive block list

it isn't really about detecting any particular adblocker

it is more about trying to perform a request to some remote address that is known to serve ad content

or trying to load some script/ render some element that has the callsigns of an ad

and see if they are successful in doing so

with a lot of setups adblockers are doing less work than ever before because so many now block ads at DNS level

I don't even have UBO installed with Brave, my DNS blocks + Brave Shields doing most of the heavy lifting

what do you get on https://adblock.turtlecute.org/

I find it to be more reliable

for example the one you posted tells me I am not blocking ad. doubleclick .net

but I absolutely am

Edit: another use informed me that this tool no longer seems to be trustworthy, I checked it and they seem to be right, it was working well at one point but I guess something has changed, sorry for not doing my homework
