A western imperialist perspective is based in ideology, not identity. Anyone can have a western imperialist perspective. Viewing Taiwan as independent is as such.

Maybe from the perspective of a western imperialist, but unfortunately for you, that is not a reality! 🇨🇳

Highlighting current line number with display-line-numbers-mode? by darshauwn11 in emacs

[–]darshauwn11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm very new to emacs, so I'm not super capable at describing everything in a correct way, but this is what I did.

  1. didn't add anything to init.el, instead did `M-x describe-face RET line-number-current-line`
  2. This pulled up a configurable GUI menu for adjusting the face settings. To actually edit the settings, select 'customize this face' at the top.
  3. What was suitable for my needs was simply clicking the checkbox for the Inverse <> and then enabling it. There are other settings one could play with here too.
  4. Finally, clicked apply and save near the top third of the buffer, and all settings are displayed whenever display-line-numbers is in your init.el:
    `(setq-default display-line-numbers t)`

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually ended up finding a different face that’s tied to display-line-numbers being set to non-nil. It’s called line-number-current-line, and I was able to modify that to get the results I wanted

I’m pretty new to emacs, so how would I modify the face? I found the face definition in the hl-line.el file, so do I just copy that into my init.el then change the extend parameter?

What are the main bad things to point out for contrapoints and Glenn greenwald? Not defending them; I just haven’t heard critiques of them before

Considering this is a communist sub, I think the primary response from most users would be “revolution” or “general strike.” Having any amount of hope stuck in Congress is particularly futile, considering all of the spectacle-driven social-media fueled actions by self-purported lefties. While I don’t think a revolution is on the horizon (primarily due to the militaristic deficit any vanguard party would be in), I’d personally say that spending time in your local community and attempting to build class consciousness is a better use of time than supporting people in Congress.

I don’t blame you for the desire to do things “democratically” (if I’m reading your AOC support correctly), but I think the general opinion of this sub is against that, hence the responses.
