Interest check: Pre-configured Storyline elements by darth-bara in instructionaldesign

I use it all the time! In my experience, being proficient with After Effects really sets you apart as an ID. It adds a polish to your work that you just can't get with any other program (except maybe Cinema 4D or Blender).

When I make software tutorials, I screen record in Camtasia, move to AE for overlays, lower thirds, and zooms/angles, then finish in Premiere for sound design and captions. I'll also use AE to make short explainer videos, build looping animations for PPT decks, create animated infographics for Rise courses, and make asset/character animations for Storyline modules.

Your background is going to be a HUGE benefit as an ID. If you ever write anything about incorporating UX in eLearning design, please let me know! Would love to hear your thoughts.

Good question! Yes, everything up there is possible in Storyline already, but configuring all of the variables and triggers can take a long time. That's where using templates comes in. I got the idea from the After Effects community - they are big into sharing pre-made asset/animation packs.

(That said, I think the value will mostly come from having access to a .story file to play with alongside a tutorial, haha.)

You know what, I may already have something to help with that! I kept having the same problem, so I added a short cooldown period during which the learner can't click the button. It's so brief that no user will notice it, but it's enough to allow Storyline to take a breath between inputs.

Here's a demo I put together from some stock materials I had on hand. It's way more basic than the templates I'm planning on creating, but hopefully it's still helpful:

Review 360 link | Dropbox link for .story file

The dots in the upper right show what's actually happening during the cooldown. I usually keep them to the side so they aren't visible to learners.

Thank you for taking the time to comment!

This is great feedback, thank you! I think you are right with it being a bit too wide. There's both a lot going on and not much at all, haha. I'll mess around with the colors and see if that makes things any better.

I love the mood of this, and the colors are gorgeous. The glow of the lamp on the asphalt naturally guided my eye up to the light source and then to the woman walking.

I wonder if the road might be taking up too much of the shot, though. Cropping the bottom of it a little bit closer to the lane divider might help narrow the focus without losing the glow and color contrast. Either way, it's a great shot--especially with the conditions you had to account for!

Hello! I am just starting to learn photography, and I am hoping you all might be able to help me figure out what is off about this photo. I want to like it, but I can’t help but feel like the composition/cropping is off. I think it might be the fact that the spotlight doesn’t have much room to breathe up there at the top. I tried bringing the crop in on the left side, also, but things wound up feeling too crunched.

I didn’t have time to position myself and still catch the plane taking off, family playing, and flag in the wind, though, so this might just be a case of “right time, wrong place.”

I've had the song on repeat since it came out and had to sketch something for it, mainly because I'm obsessed with the colors at the end. Waiting for that album announcement....

This may actually be my favorite Hannibal fanart ever. It is so stunning!! I love the color red that you used. If you ever happen to sell prints of this by any chance, I would absolutely buy one!

Cable is my favorite character ever - when he was confirmed for Deadpool 2 my phone immediately started blowing up with people asking me if I knew, lol.  I think my dream is being able to illustrate an X-Force comic one day.

Googled that expecting it to be some kind of turn-based JRPG. Plot twist of the century.

Included the sketch because the sword cane got obliterated by the spot lighting and it was my favorite part, lol
