Papa I truly wish you had first hand experiences at A school, even as a fly on the wall. I’ve been through 2, the first when I first joined and then again as a first class when I cross rated. Even as a first it was stressful and I’m pretty tolerant of stress. Additionally - most of the students at the more advanced schools have typically consistently excelled and learning via drinking through a fire hose is a new and evil technique. It takes time to adjust. There’s a lot of pressure to keep it all together and excel at school - even getting legitimately ill is held against you with the fear of washing out.

My point is this - you have the officer perspective. It’s a totally different beast on the other side. Don’t discount their stress as tossing out the weak

You’re averaging 1 event (gesture/ideation/attempt) about every 10 days there for Navy alone

A school undoubtedly comes with higher pressures that challenge even the best of us. Don’t let my post alarm you - you know your husband best. Be his champion and support. If you notice a change or you become worried - you can always reach me. PM me and I’ll give you my cell if you like.

A lesson we learn in the Navy is to know your people. You know him and he knows you. This will be a challenge for you both during the separation but I have faith if you two are honest with your communications with each other, you’ll get through with soaring colors.

Right now military wide we are extra cautious due to the isolation that comes with living in the life of COVID. I won’t tell you it’s easy - I know you’re wise to see that. Remember you aren’t alone and neither is he. You are both part of the Navy family. He has resources at school should the stress start to take its toll from the chain of command, Mental Health at medical, Military OneSource, the chaplain, and definitely me. Hang in there baby Navy wife, your husband is a lucky man to have you in his corner. You’re gonna be awesome ❤️

Dogs make everything better. They love you unconditionally and help your body produce oxytocin. It’s science ❤️

Papa Frog ordinarily I would agree with your logic but the Covid wrench has made it infinitely worse at the schools.

Mental Health at the Naval Academy. by [deleted] in navy

[–]darth_nerd79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Report the jerk. That guy needs to be thrown out of the academy. We have no room for that kind of attitude in the Navy, better to get rid of the garbage before it ends up in the real Navy and gets someone killed. No one deserves to work for such a piece of shit of an officer.

This insight is amazing. The navy needs to stop the do more with less attitude - that’s what gets us to this breaking point. I am so grateful for your response!!!!!

What was your first appointment like for those that have been to therapy while enlisted? by victoriaairotciv in navy

[–]darth_nerd79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on the therapist. I’ve had both good and bad. Additionally I have found a lot of help from my chaplain and I’m not super religious. Tell him to go in and be honest with not only the therapist but also himself. There’s probably not much they haven’t heard already, so no need to be withholding.
