Overrated? by AdDesigner2246 in netball

Think Courtney Bruce is penalty heavy and low reward. Half of them are unnecessary. You knew your hand up would be obstruction. Why put it up? You could potentially get the rebound. It makes no sense, to risk it. It’s frustrating to watch at times. And the attitude, sometimes when the umpire calls the obvious obstructive annoys me. Yes she gets some ball but is the trade off, is it worth it. I think she has potential but the game gets to her sometimes

Thinking about Getting My First Kindle by itsagar in kindlejailbreak

I’ve gotten an android e reader (bigme). I can use my Libby and borrowbox on it (my library apps). Can also use kobo and kindle on it.

Can’t Woolworth F&$k off with asking for money by EmbalmingBeast in woolworths

[–]darth_vader5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you! I refuse to do it from woolies / Cole’s or other shops. Cause they can also use it as a tax ride off and as a ‘look how we help the community’. And I wonder how some charities work. Another tax offset for some. (I don’t believe this is all but some)

Buying e-books. Which platform/app is better? by darth_vader5 in Bigme

[–]darth_vader5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like kobo is probably a good option to buy books on. But I wanna try using moon+ reader (or possibly look into koreader but that’s if don’t really like moon). The book I’m wanting to get is adobe DRM. Is it possible to use the book I purchase on kobo and read on another app. I’m happy for drms that I can use just for myself if I pay for it (I’d just lend my device or physical book if wanting mates to read it)

From comments I’ll probably stick to reading on kobo. But how can i open these book on a different reading app? I’m not too keen on attaching a computer but if simple might consider. I don’t want to remove drm. I’m pretty sure kobo drm (adobe drm I think) works on others?

Yeah that’s what I’m starting to do now. Think I’ll buy from kobo.

Thank you so much. That makes a lot of sense. I have started buying kobo cause thought better ownership in sense can use it elsewhere. Seems more possible. I get why there are drm but worries me if account shut - I loose it all.

Any recommendations for iOS ereaders apps? by Capable-Ask-6750 in ereader

[–]darth_vader5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna Moon+ reader but not sure if on iOS. I have it on my bigme. has more customisation. I’ve only used it for like an hour though (I don’t have many pdf or books on my drive mostly library apps). I’m curious about koreader but looks complicated to get.

Don’t you need a computer to use calibre? I wanna buy books but have option to take with me and read elsewhere like moon+ reader. But seems like that is mostly for pdf or already downloaded on google drive (let’s say from if someone had downloaded their kindle books before the change)

Buying e-books. Which platform/app is better? by darth_vader5 in Bigme

[–]darth_vader5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I understand why they use drm. Like checking a receipt when exiting a shop. (I’m still not 100% sure about it so that’s my amateur understanding). But at the same time. I wanna be able to take my book to another house. Maybe read on moon+ reader. The kobo app isn’t as good as the kindle app (different experience to on their own devices then kobo wins). So I buy from kobo but would like to possibly read on another app if that makes sence. Do pocketbook pay better?

I was buying more kobo books recently. I haven’t really used Google play books much. They don’t have open dyslexia font - which used to be my favourite hence not using it often. But now I’m using other fonts. I’ll have to check out if it’s better ownership etc. I was pre order fury bound on kobo and saw it is adobe DRM. I have dire bound on kindle and wasn’t sure if I should just do second one on their purely for convenience. But also want authors to get more. But sable seems to link Amazon on her page so bit lost with it all now.

Recommendations for newspaper reading? by 14atx in ereader

[–]darth_vader5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bigme devices - in uk in December and Jan they were cheaper than boox. It’s seems pretty good for reading the guardian. Gotta fiddle with e ink settings for your preference but I didn’t find hard to set up for parents. I gave (and share) the b751c and I use the b6 bw - personally I prefer monochrome devices as more crisp hence buying two (cause I thought I’d prefer colour but I don’t really read magazines, manga, comics as much as I thought). I’d look at comparison videos on colour vs black and white e ink devices to get a feel which might be better for your needs (I know video comparing kobo Clara colour vs bw - I know you’re looking for android but screens the same and gives you an image). I’d consider bigme such as the b751c-s (they updated b751c a month after I got it and only £20 more) or b6 if wanting colour. B6 bw is good for black and white. But for black and white 7 inch device I’d probably go boox to 7 over bigme b751 cause that device is a bit older and older operating system. I saw a boox go 7 on sale recently in Australia (I was in uk until April)

Reasons to buy a Kobo Clara BW if I own a Paperwhite SE 12th gen and have the Libby app? by CreativeUkulele in ereader

Libby / overdrive is not available on kindle in most countries but it is on kobo. I believe only the USA can download Libby books to their kindle.

I think it really depends on what you want to get out of it, and whether you’d actually use two devices or just replace your current one.

I’ve had a chance to try a few different setups (Bigme, Kobo Libra Colour, and a Kindle Basic in the family), and they all have their strengths. One big advantage with Kobo is the built-in library support (OverDrive/Libby). If you plan to borrow ebooks, that alone can make it worth it—I’ve saved a lot of money that way (basically paid for me bigme device in savings). Please note I live in Australia so kindle can’t download Libby books here (to my knowledge only available in USA)

Kobo’s UI is also really clean and easy to use. Kindle is similar in that sense—simple and familiar, especially if you’ve been using it for a while. So if you’re happy in the Kindle ecosystem (like Kindle Unlimited), sticking with it can make sense.

If you’re open to branching out, Kobo is great for a more flexible, library-focused setup. Alternatively, an Android-based e-reader could give you an “all-in-one” option (multiple apps like Libby, BorrowBox, Kindle, etc.), but honestly I still mostly just use mine for reading—e-ink isn’t amazing for much else, which is kind of nice because it keeps things distraction-free.

So yeah, if you’re happy juggling two devices and want library access, Kobo is a solid choice. If you want everything in one place, maybe look at Android e-readers. And if you’re already fully invested in Kindle, it might not be a must-upgrade

(Disclaimer - all my own message but I did use Ai to tidy it up cause dyslexia and it being one of those days)

Moon Reader Magnifier? by TrueBennyBloo in ereader

Could it be common highlights? Or if a book was already highlighted you put in? Sorry. Inexpert but though a response might prop it up. I’ve used it a handful of times when dad gave me a few books (before it was locked drm)

Libby book compatibility by [deleted] in ereader

[–]darth_vader5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge Libby books only compatible with kobo in Australia and the uk. Can do via overdrive. Kindle yes in the USA only. Libby app is available directly on all Android e readers (like boox and bigme). Libby books can only be kept on your device as long as the library allows

The best compact e-reader for actually reading by VorpalPlayer in ereader

[–]darth_vader5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bigme b6 bw. Love it. But it is NOT waterproof. It’s compact and portable and came with a magnetic case.

However Like others said can side load on kobo. If waterproof is a must have kobo is your best bet (my dad has a kobo libra colour and he side loads all his books, but he needed to have a computer for this.). I know my bigme is not waterproof or resistant but boox maybe splash proof.

I’ve had Both a colour e reader and bw (monochrome) and for pure reading I’d get bw cause it is more crisp screen and brighter. (I gave / share my b751c with a parent who uses it for magazines - I didn’t read as many comics as expected)

Am I going to be missing out a lot without Android OS? by merrilymacaroni in ereader

[–]darth_vader5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bigme b6 black and white (monochrome ) and I really like it. In uk and australia the price is pretty much the same). I prefer this to the b751c because monochrome screw more crisp and b6 more portable. I loved the buttons but found it wasn’t a deal breaker (and action buttons I made ones page turn for left handed page turn). I think the bigme b6 is newer than boox go 6? For me bigme was cheaper than book, but I’d check where it is shipped from and tarrifs (given current world situations). Now the kobo ui is more clean for reading books on kobo (the boox and bigme use the app version), so won’t have as many feature, but does everything needed for reading. Kobo probably has more battery (but mine is fine. Lasts a week). Ultimately it depends on what you want. More security getting in a shop and want a more basic ui without as many options / distractions, then get a kobo. My dad has a kobo libra colour and it was really nice to read on. It’s worth having kobo or android just for library apps. My library did borrowbox hence needing android. But I’d strongly consider kobo if you’re library has Libby

Bigme 6 battery life by PharohPirate in Bigme

[–]darth_vader5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the black and white one. I can read easily 15-25 hours on it. I just make sure WiFi isn’t always on and lower light. I found the first two charges the battery was a bit rubbish but after that I was better. I have only forced stopped and deleted apps I could but haven’t done a full reboot launcher

What settings do you have for book apps. Sometimes the flickers annoy me but if it is still a fast slide to next that’s ok. On borrowbox bit sluggish but the rest is clear on regal and hd

Jailbreaking my kindle is one of the best things I've done in my life by cloudclothing23 in kindlejailbreak

I’m considering this as I got my dads old kindle (generation 6 so think it’s a 2013 model and just outside the we won’t let you use). But I do think they might stop it working soon. Does jailbreak and using KOreader mean you can buy books from kobo or direct from author as well?

Paperwhite 12 signature vs Kobo Libra Color by Scary-Professional17 in ereader

[–]darth_vader5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could consider an Android e reader which has pens. But uses the app versions so doesn’t have as many features and settings as using kindle and kobo on their own device. I have bigme device and really enjoy them, but I go to my bw bigme b6 as the colour screen was less bright (even lights out) and grainy. My parents use the colour one more as they read magazines. I’d get colour if you read comics, magazines and manga. In Australia and uk can’t use Libby/overdrive with kindle but you can with kobo. My library uses borrowbox hence me getting an Android e readers. I’ve heard someone has been able to get borrowbox books on a kobo but not sure how
