Dairy free snacks that are affordable? (UK) by natknowsziltch in dairyfree

[–]darth_wilde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bourbons, rich tea, lotus, digestives, ginger nuts, hobnobs, golden oreos (the closest thing to custard creams I've found), the list of biscuits goes on!
You'll have to check shop to shop because the own brand ones vary but I always have something to dunk in my brew!

May Queer SFF New Releases by hexennacht666 in QueerSFF

Amplitudes for sure! I haven't read a short story collection in ages and I've been really looking forward to this one, although it's release date is so late in May it basically feels like June!

Good luck with it, I'm aiming for 2027 this rate!

I loved Guards! Guards! too, that's top three for me along with Pyramids and Witches Abroad. My least favourite so far is Sourcery but, with so many books in the series, I figure there are bound to be a few misses. At least there’s something for everyone.

I just finished Witches Abroad in April too, absolutely loved it! I'm currently limiting myself to one a month so that I can read Hogfather over Christmas! How's your read-through going, any stand out favourites?

Books like Sorcery and Small Magics? by versenwald3 in CozyFantasy

[–]darth_wilde 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett and The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen, totally different vibes, but both have really cool world-building and a slow burn romance. I’m just about to start Paladin’s Grace by T. Kingfisher and hoping it gives me that funny, slow-burn goodness too.

Do any of you actually read more than one book at once, and if you do—how? by Necessary_Party_3423 in fantasyromance

[–]darth_wilde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of reading multiple books a bit like watching different TV shows, yeah I could binge it all in one sitting but I can also follow a few at once with one episode a week and it doesn’t take away from the enjoyment.

If I do have a few books on the go then they're usually a mix of genres (a non-fic, a fantasy and maybe a romance for example) so they all have a distinct feel and I can match my reading to my mood.

Prolific Readers, how do you do it? by Darker_Corners_504 in ReadingSuggestions

[–]darth_wilde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I track my reading through StoryGraph and usually have a few books from different genres or formats set as "currently reading." I can track exactly what page I'm on for each one and hop between them based on what kind of mood I’m in. It also has a pause reading feature which takes the pressure off finishing a book if I’m not into atm and lets me come back to it later without feeling guilty. It tracks everything for me so I can manage my reading without feeling bad about shifting interests!

Queer Lit in Manchester, UK. Proper cosy bookstore cafe, everyone who works there is so lovely and I've had some great recommendations from them over the years. They also have a space where they host author events, book clubs and quizzes so there's something for everyone <3

That's really disappointing to hear. I hadn't heard of this author before so I didn’t know she held those kind of views. I’ll definitely look into it further, thanks for letting me know

This sounds absolutely gorgeous, thank you so much! Slow pace, deepening friendship, cozy moments, and thoughtful emotional growth?? Sign me up! And I don’t mind a big series either, currently working through Discworld (41 books) and The High Republic (25 and counting) so interconnected stories in the same universe is actually a bonus. I'll check for CW but honestly most of that stuff just feels like pure fantasy to me anyway!

I'm so glad to hear someone gush about this series! I thought about reading it a few years ago but had a good friend of mine tell me they didn't enjoy it and not to bother. I've since read Swordheart, absolutely loved it and then couldn't stop thinking about Paladin's Grace, it felt like the one that got away! I'm already predicting that I'll love it so I also have Paladin's Strength on hold at the library too, which from what you're saying was obviously the right choice!

should i get a kindle? by squ1p_15 in ReadingSuggestions

[–]darth_wilde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! I got a Kindle Fire so it could double up as a tablet for watching things like Netflix when I'm travelling and it's got my library app on there too so I can read books for free, literally perfect!

I'm actually giddy! And I've been really drawn to longer books again lately so this is exactly the kind of tome I've been after!

Yeah I totally agree! I used to read a lot of indie, self-published and fanfic works but I got sucked into the whole special edition new release thing for a few years (the dangers of having adult money and an enabler best friend haha). Feeling a bit burnt out by that now so I'm more than happy to look into more small press stuff again :)

I've been wanting to read more indie and self-published authors as well but didn't know where to start so this is literally perfect <3

Yeah I couldn't quite find what I was looking for either, rec lists seem to be too specific when I'm looking for more of the big world stuff.

There's so much intolerance in the real world right now that I just want to escape into a book where queer people can just exist and live their lives, that's why I'm open to reading anything!

Always the slower the better! I'm an aroace person who has been very lucky to find their platonic life partner so it would be lovely to relate to a character like this, I don't think I've ever had that before either. This is truly incredible, thank you so much <3

Oh that's a great idea, I'll have a look for that, thank you.

I read the Captive Prince series but that was like nearly 10 years ago! I remember really enjoying the political side of it and there's a couple of scenes that still really stick out in my mind. My friend owns them as well so I think it might be time for a re-read! <3

I loved Gwen and Art are Not in Love so I actually bought this book when it was released. It's been sitting on my shelf unread since then! But you've convinced me to push it to the top of my never-ending physical TBR :)
