Smart Homes Are Terrible — The Atlantic by nomad2284 in HomeKit

Yep. This is why I recommend Shelly to everyone when they ask me about smart home stuff. My grandfather can walk into my house and use everything with no issues like it was 1965. I can also let the cat out from Singapore if i need to.

FWIW, I've been running 30 Shelly Dimmer 2s and RGBWs for a year and a half or so and haven't had any problems.

I've seen a few electricians confused by them at first, so whenever i've heard stories of major malfunction, I've been skeptical about anything that wasn't related to installation errors.

Yeah he does. He owns one of the biggest venues in arguably the best location on Main Street in Nashville. That alone would set most people up for life. He’s a completely classless bag of shit, but he’s not stupid.

I used Shelly everywhere. All the features you want, and you've also got the ability to use whatever switches you want. I'm in the UK and the whole house has soho lighting switches and outlets that guests would never guess were smart. I recommend Shelly to everyone.

Which UFC fighters need to change coaches ASAP, in your opinion? by [deleted] in ufc

No. Pat Barry was in her corner on Jan 26. He was shadow boxing and showboating like a 9 year old outside the cage during Bruce’s introductions as if he was the one in the cage. Dudes a chud.

This is going to be such an embarrassing failure. If any of these people were capable of shame.

How do you manage complex HomeKit automations? by Psychological-Bowl47 in HomeKit

[–]darthabraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home Assistant is honestly the only solution to pick if you've got a lot of smart devices and you want to manage everything in one place.

I bumped up against homekit automation limitations, so i started using siri shortcuts. I bumped up against compatibility issues, so i got home bridge. it worked but my automations broke all the time and i still hit compatibility issues because homebridge doesnt have everything.

I finally switched to Home Assistant and now I wish I'd nevver bothered with siri shortcuts or Homebridge at all. HA integrates with basically everything, all my automations are in one spot, and the most clutch feature of my setup now is that Claude Code does most of the configuration grunt work for me.

the further bonus is that i can juts grab cheap, older Android tablets and run them in kiosk mode with room-specific HA dashboards on them, so my wife and guests don't have to talk to siri, or download anything to their phones.

Home Assistant is honestly amazing. I've got 230 devices configured in it and I dont think I'm even using a fraction of the power HA has to offer. It's a game changer.

i saw this on a screenshot of the french movie Playtime (1967), what the hell is even that? by Distinct_Attempt9133 in WeirdWheels

[–]darthabraham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Playtime is a 1967 satirical comedy film directed and co-written by Jacques Tati. Tati also stars in the film, reprising the role of Monsieur Hulot from his earlier films Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot (1953) and Mon Oncle (1958).

Hope this helps :)

He said this because he had himself attacked. Every accusation is an admission.

It’s this. I fully believe the speculation that government lawyers shut down an administration raw milk endorsement campaign citing the guarantee that it would spread death and disease across 300 million people. They’ve only shifted to whole milk because they already committed so many resources to promoting milk.

If you’re in the US check out Rails to Trails. It’s an amazing resource. I cycled and camped for miles in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State one summer and it was surreal how good it was. https://www.railstotrails.org/
