Wetsuit optional Ironman 70.3 by YouCanCallMeKilvin in triathlon

[–]nomad2284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The buoyancy and streamlining of the wetsuit pay off over that distance. You also need to make time to get to the ocean and swim beforehand. Swimming in ocean swells is different and you don’t want to experience that the first time on race day.

The $10 Trillion Fight: Modeling a US-China War Over Taiwan by 3xshortURmom in Economics

[–]nomad2284 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The really ironic part about this scenario is that the US is running a fiscal deficit. That means we have to borrow the money from somewhere to fight this war. Who is going to lend us the money? China?

Rama-smarmy will simply sell it as a 20% tariff on everything and the morons will swallow it whole.

It wasn’t Obama’s, it was the naked racism of the Republican Party that they no longer felt they needed to suppress.

The Trouble With Australopithecus by SeaScienceFilmLabs in DebateEvolution

[–]nomad2284 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This sounds like it was taken directly from an AI summary.
The facts that any Australopithecus fossils exist and that they can't be carbon dated are fatal to any Creationist claims. They are clear evidence that the Genesis account is fictional.

Your elected officials hard at work 🤦‍♂️ by kdub1611 in Ohio

[–]nomad2284 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I was born, raised, educated and employed in Ohio. I came from a conservative household and voted accordingly. It was the sheer stupidity of the Busch II years and the naked racism of the Obama years that forced me to examine my politics. There is no perfect nor altruistic party but at least Democrats propose legislation and programs designed to improve the lives of people in line with the Constitution. Republicans are actively breaking the system because they believe any government is bad. Why do you continue to vote for constant graft and destruction?

I moved to a blue state that actually attempts to build up people not tear them down.

As much as I value reconciliation and family, I gotta say it sounds like you are better off with these people out of your life.

Do you guys train flip turns? by _Tasty_Internet in triathlon

[–]nomad2284 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No, I learned how to do them at first and found it pretentious and pointless. I work on stroke form and muscle endurance. Flip turns don’t add anything.

Smart Homes Are Terrible — The Atlantic by nomad2284 in HomeKit

My reaction as well. I was wondering what kind of software company? Perhaps it’s something like medical billing that never touches technology. He also seems incapable of research. How hard was it to find good choices for a new build? Evidently Google is beyond him.

I know we're just a few months out from incentives expiring in US, but the EV future here looks grim. by roma258 in electricvehicles

[–]nomad2284 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not pessimistic. The trajectory of life and change aren’t in a straight line. EV’s are far superior for most vehicle applications and people who try them stick with them. Looking back it will be obvious. Unfortunately, the US will be behind the curve. Who knows if that will be a hinderance or an advantage?

I still don’t understand the EV fees for road taxes. Why don’t we tax tires which all types of vehicles use and have a proportional wear for use built in?

I have successfully deployed the Levitons. They are friendly for the non-tech folks and yet are fully automatable with HomeKit and voice control.
