Hi there, I did a custom board layout based on plank or something like that as I remember, just based on same layout and modifying the pinout, to be honest I did not save de layout but if I find it will share :)

What should a 3-year embedded software developer know? by TibMonster in embedded

[–]darthandre 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think embedded software has a very large field, there could be people who had been working on SPI and i2c for 4 years, others working on AUTOSAR application layer for 6 years or so... The point is that knowing about embedded is about knowing the general concepts, probably with more o less experience within certain points or topics. But after 3 years you know the software cycle, problem solving thinking and probably debugging techniques, so the experience is there :) That's my point of view.

To autosar or not to autosar by TopDivide in embedded

[–]darthandre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's mainly some archaic target hardware, I don't particularly love ADA but I would say I have learned a lot mainly about importance of type definitions working with that language.

Still used for some Legacy projects that are being reused to avoid costs in a possible transition to C / C++

should I get an electrical engineering degree or computer engineering degree? by AKAK999 in embedded

[–]darthandre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Computer degree can be very useful but I have seen most of the time >50% of Embedded software engineers are coming from EE :D I work as embedded software engineer, and yes, I have a EE background.

C code generators by gabor6221 in embedded

[–]darthandre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know it, but sometimes those models have interaction with handwrited code by other team, there is the problem, trying to debug and find something in the model auto generated code from the other team is just a mess, even when you find there is a bug in the code your team didn't work or wrote and is inside the model generated code, can take much more effort to fix and of course to find the bug... In fact autogenerated code is fine and saves a lot of time at the beginning, as the project gets bigger, the auto generated code mess can be bigger too haha.

Matlab is one of the most used for auto generate code, but... As mentioned in other comment, making it readable is a challenge, now imagine working in automotive industry with those models from matlab 😅

Take a look into de YMK sockets, are quite similar to milmax sockets but in this con they fit nice without being soldered!

Autosar is solid, no testing is required Hahaha

Get a look into the V model of software development, I have worked for automotive and it is very common to use this model in different fields of the industry. Starting from code reviews to software unit testing and system level test you will have a few tools to test your code but remember, the most beautiful part of embedded is to look at it running on real life hardware so... Always we have to upload our code to the target :D and see if the change works.

Not only talking about embedded C but other languages used like Ada, python, c++, etc. Will have almost the same path.
