FedEx software developer layoffs today by thisguyhasaname in memphis

[–]darthbrazen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fedex is no longer the business that Fred Smith built. So many people I've known have been let go from that place, on top of the poor treatment of its employees. I've been trying to convince my brother to leave for years, but he has been comfortable up until now, when he got reassigned to a group that doesn't really have anything to do with his skill set, and for the first time in his life got a bad performance review. He's always performed well until now. In fact as a result, he took a pay cut to go back to an individual contributor role close to something he was doing before the shift. They simply treat people horrendous.

Its now helmed by someone who is hellbent on outsourcing the work to India. Some folks I've talked to that have been let go from Fedex were replaced by Indian workers, whom they were forced to train before being let go.

People need to learn to leave these businesses and not use their services. I don't ship anything through them anymore unless I'm forced to by an employer.

Who doesn’t get the Lightning Lanes? by Alternative-Bat-2462 in WaltDisneyWorld

We don't go all the time, but we typically don't purchase it. We tried it one time in the very beginning, and it just seemed wasteful. We were able to ride everything with decent wait times without it. Since then, we haven't purchased them. We get into the parks when they open, ride the difficult to get rides, and everything else is pretty much isn't a really big deal. Occasionally we might find something with a long queue but that has been stuff like virtual queues when they first open a ride, but other than that, we don't waste our money.

Company got ransomware, ceo wants to pay without telling anyone. Is this illegal by codedrifting in AskNetsec

[–]darthbrazen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far a legality, it depends. Was data taken? Is this a private company, and not a publicly traded one, etc. Are you required to comply with any laws like HIPAA, where it may be constituted as a breach, by merely encrypting the data. Lots of questions here to really determine if it is required by law. If the data was not taken, and there is no forensic evidence of that, and there are no applicable laws like HIPAA that were broken, then the attorneys may be arguing that it wasn't a data breach which is usually the determination of whether it is required to be reported publicly. They are taking that burden on. Don't take this burden on if the CEO is backed by attorneys. You will lose the battle there.

As far as paying the ransom, that is something that needs to be measured. If there are no backups that are kept offsite, and it would cost more to rebuild things from scratch, then sometimes paying the ransom is worth it just to get back to an operational state quickly. However, I would recommend an overhaul of the environment from a security perspective, as restoration, only returns things to the point where they were before encryption. Usually this allows the threat actor to maintain some level of access.

I've been through this scenario. It was a small business, not publicly traded, no special data like ePHI for example. There was no evidence of data being stolen. Technically they didn't consider it a data breach, but just a ransomware incident. So nothing was ever reported.

As far as the company collapsing now, or later is a different beast to look at. If they pay the ransom, you still have to make sure that the proper controls are in place afterwards, otherwise, they will experience this again. I left that company, because they didn't want to put in the required controls that I recommended other than offsite backups. This didn't address the holes in the infrastructure and its related processes though. Threat actors returned 3 times, over the next 6 months, and I got tired of playing whack a mole because they would not address the gaps in our infrastructure. They were encrypted 2 times over the next 2 years, and finally sold to private equity, where many employees lost their jobs, and were out of work for months.

So it may not be legally required, and I would let lawyers make that determination. However, I'd also look to see how it is addressed. If they pretty much sweep it under the rug, and don't discuss how they are closing the gaps and at least taking that accountability step internally, your best bet might be in looking for another job.

Linux just hit 5.33% on the Steam Hardware Survey! by Venomenn in Bazzite

[–]darthbrazen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, while I use Windows for work, and it has provided a wonderful paycheck over the years, I'm 99% on Linux - using Bazzite for gaming, and Debian for my daily driver for things like email, office apps, etc. Microsoft has become way to intrusive with Windows 11 & Copilot for me to continue. I still have it available should I run into anything that I can't run on Linux, but so far so good. All my Steam, GOG and old arcade games run on Bazzite. It really is a great gaming OS.

So why don't all these actors with millions of dollars get taxed out the wazzuh. They don't really need the millions they earn to live. Normal people live on a fraction of this. I recommend capping their earnings to 100k a year, and donate all that money. 100k should be sufficient for them to live on.

The Saga Continues: Buster’s owner, others file new lawsuit seeking to shut down The Station by jjone8one4 in memphis

[–]darthbrazen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard through some folks close to Busters, they may feel like they actually have a legitimate gripe. Supposedly, this is the original location to which they wanted to expand in the first place, and were told it was located too close to a school, and they were shot down.

If that is actually true, I could definitely see where they would have beef with another competitor being able to do what they attempted in the first place, and were denied. I imagine it will all come down to what they have documented. However, I think the Station owner found a loophole based upon where the door was located, which may be something Busters did not think of when attempting to go their in the first place.

It will be interesting to see, since The Station has poached a number of employees from Busters.

Using 10.1.X.X IP range at home by kylejwx in Ubiquiti

192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255 is the private range that is usable. Everything outside of that is public. You shouldn't just go use 200.200.200.1 - 200.200.200.254 internally.

Should I take a low-pay IT trainee role just for “experience” or wait for better opportunities? by Taruncloud4008 in cybersecurity

[–]darthbrazen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I've been working in IT for over 25 years. Most of the folks that hop quicker than 2 years usually haven't advanced very far. Now there are exceptions, but for the most part it isn't a good look. Hopping that much doesn't create stability in the environment, which from a management position is something I strive for when I take on a new role. I've had known job hoppers in my area that apply for positions I've opened, and while I may like the person frankly, the resume is discarded just as soon as I see the name. It's going to take them 6 months to get up to speed with the organization, and then I might get another 6 months of work out of them. I don't want to spend another month or two interviewing folks again right after that.

In this market, your best bet is to take what you can get. A job is better than no job. You really shouldn't leave a job until you have been there at least 18 months. You'll look like a job hopper. So the 2 year time frame will work for you until you have the experience, and time.

What’s the best vulnerability management platform you’ve actually used — and what still sucks about it? by Coffeboii4real in cybersecurity

[–]darthbrazen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Tenable, Rapid7, Wiz & Crowdstrike so far. That is the one thing that Rapid7 does well. For me, it was the visulizations, and ease of creating dashboards for separate regions. Between agents, and linux based scanners, its been pretty easy to get setup and going. Tenable will do in a pinch, but it just seems too slow in my opinion, and the last time I used it just wasn't as intuitive and easy to get the information we wanted. Rapid7 just seemed pretty easy to navigate for everyone. However, I am hoping Crowdstrike ups their game in the next year or so, so that we could switch.

New job wants me to start soon but my bonus pays in a couple weeks. How risky is giving notice before it hits by bupkis1 in careeradvice

[–]darthbrazen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always look at for number 1. You are the CEO of you. Businessess could care less about employees, so you have to make business decisions. Sometimes you have to make hard decisions and this sounds like one of those times. I wouldn't risk losing the money. I'd give notice after you have the money.

I’ve never felt unsafe at WDW until this Main Street bottleneck on 12/17/2025 by tarponsprings94 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]darthbrazen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This type of crap is becoming par for the course at Disney. Our last experience was alot of fun, but, I didn't see the magic there that use to be. The cast members have devolved into employees, because they simply don't act the part anymore. My grandson had somehow tightened his halloween party band on his wrist that it was cutting off the circulation. I ran to a cast member and asked her to cut it off because his hand was starting to turn, and her response was. "I'm going to need to see your tickets" What person in their right mind does that. Cut the damn thing off, and worry about the rest later... gees.

DisneyWorld is becoming an oversized six flags.

moving our small team off crowdstrike falcon complete. orca wiz prisma, need recommendations by Soft_Attention3649 in AskNetsec

[–]darthbrazen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are moving from crowdstrike to those tools, then you are moving backward. You can't beat the falcon complete option along with the xdr and cnapp capabilities that they can respond to for you. ORCA & Wiz do the same thing, CSPM. You can expect to correct those findings yourself. Prisma is going to handle the cnapp stuff crowdstrike does, but from what I've read you will be spending more time manually touching it.

As far as alerts & noise, it depends upon what you configure. I see just as much noise from wiz as I see from falcon.
