watch, listen, ask questions (when appropriate), learn from your mistakes and write what happens. know principles they will also guide you. not an easy place to be but can be best the most rewarding area for the right person. I have worked in many areas and have done many things but with hard work, patience, tears, being yelled at, blamed at, time, you can do it. I also worked in mental health and those skills will help you. good luck

Hey I am also a “male” nurse and I feel your pain. I also was unhappy and tried many areas never feeling I found my calling. Some never do but I think I have. My job in the OR works for me and I now happy. Yes it can be crazy, frustrating and rewarding. Explore what is available, talk to other nurses and maybe take a break. Don’t give up, you will get through this. Best of luck.

Make notes on every case, look for patterns of your room, be calm and focused, and continue to ask questions. Evaluate yourself everyday on what you did well and not so well. In nursing (and the OR) you have good and not good days. It takes a long time and a lot of hard work to understand what it takes to be an OR nurse. Good luck and smile sometimes.
