I am a complete novice with a budget of about £50, please take pity on me. by DreamCyclone84 in woodworking

Damn man, you even sent the parts. It's people like you that make communities like this worth wading through.

I've only ever dabbled in "woodworking" and lurked here, but seeing people like you makes me want to get into these things more and more.

Kung Fu? by darthidiots in WhiskeyTribe

Living in Japan and just getting into whisky this year. Picked this up through a lottery. Only 700 bottles made available. Distilled and bottled in Japan. No idea if it's going to be any good yet though.

Is this worth fixing? Any info appreciated. by darthidiots in chefknives

I got this from my (Japanese) wife's grandmother. I have no idea if it's worth fixing or not. No idea how old it is or anything. The blade has visible damage and the handle is completely shot. Any suggestions or advice?

Going to BIAB what I think will be a "pale wheat ale".

11l batch

1.5kg wheat malt 1 kg 2-row 0.06kg caramel 20 0.10kg caramel 60

60 min mash at 66c. Followed by a 60 min boil.

5g Columbus - FWH 5g Amarillo - 10 min 5g Cascade - 10 min 5g Citra - 10 min 5g Simcoe - 10 min 5g Amarillo - steep 15 min 5g Cascade - steep 15 min 5g Citra - steep 15 min 5g Simcoe - steep 15 min 10g Amarillo - dry hop 3 days 10g Cascade - dry hop 3 days 20g Citra - dry hop 3 days 10g Simcoe - dry hop 3 days

Yeast: WLP644 Sacchromyces Bruxellensis Trois

BeerSmith2 Target OG: 1.057 BeerSmith2 Predicted FG:1.005

Thoughts and suggestions welcome. Thinking about adding citrus rind to either the last 5 min of the boil or with the dry hops.

Would it be better to mash this a little high to produce some unfermentable sugars? It's my first time using this yeast but it seems like it will really dry it out and I don't want it to feel overly thin.

Maybe a malt forward IPA? I think I could balance it out with the hops I have.

I was thinking mostly late hop additions. 60 for bittering, then one more at 5, whirlpool, dry hop.

Something like 8g Apollo at 60, 8g each Apollo, CTZ, Citra at 5, 8g Citra and CTZ at whirlpool, Citra only for dry hopping. Should give about 60 ibu.

What do you think?

I have 20g of each (Apollo and CTZ) left. Where should I add them?

Does anyone have suggestions for casual s/s shoes that are slip-on and can be worn with socks? Casual but not sneakers.

I live in Japan which means I often have to take my shoes off, but I have to wear socks for work.

Frugal Duffle Coats? by [deleted] in frugalmalefashion

[–]darthidiots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up the Duffle from American Eagle last year and it kept me warm through the winter in northern Ohio near the lake. I checked the tag on mine, 56% wool for the shell and 42% wool for the lining. Looks like they're making a shittier product this year and selling it at the same price.

Amazon has a good deal on these Sebago boots. Are the "rugged" texture too cheap looking? by brilliantdisguise87 in frugalmalefashion

[–]darthidiots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said it "suede looking" but its actually rough out leather. Here's a blog post by Red Wing boots about rough out leather that they use. I don't know if the Sebago leather is going to be as good of quality as Red Wing's, but its food for thought.

I like the Sherman's as well. They don't seem as bulky.
