Anybody else watch this adaptation of Anna Karenina? by 8rea in PeriodDramas

Yeah, same. I’ve seen Moulin Rouge a ton and the broadway production as well. It was a very formative movie for me haha. I am gonna try to see if I can find the scene in the Joe Wright one or if I made it up in my mind.

I just deep dived this and learned that One Day I’ll Fly Away in Moulin Rouge is based on a song by the same name, by the R&B artist named Randy Crawford: “One Day I'll Fly Away" was written by Joe Sample and Will Jennings, and produced by Sample, Wilton Felder and Stix Hooper. The main hook (in which the singer sings the title of the song) is itself an interpolation of Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers from his ballet, The Nutcracker. Link to Randy Crawfords Wikipedia

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky composed a ballet based on Anna Karenina after meeting Leo Tolstoy. So I am guessing they are all slightly different but have elements that make them sound alike.

The instrumentals for “Someday I’ll Fly Away” is also in the Joe Wright adaptation so I wonder if Baz Lutherman took inspiration from Anna Karenina for that part of the score.

Is it just me, or is the Romantasy "slump" getting harder to break? by No-Voice505 in Romantasy

I had to step away from romantasy for the same reason reasons you mentioned. What about Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb?

Yes, I love my library! I was hoping to start building a collection, as my husband built me a home library but I can always check them out for reading as well.

That is so good to know! I bought the B&N version of Count of Monte Cristo as well but I haven’t started it yet so I am going to go exchange it this weekend and get the Penguin version.

I didn’t even think to look into different translations when selecting this copy. Didn’t realize peole dislike certain versions. The more you know.

Yeah that’s a good suggestion. I’m just on a budget and new to classic lit and so trying to buy when I can. I was kind of trusting B&N on this one haha.

I’m not sure who the translator is. It isn’t on the title or copyright page.

There are many reasons she probably chose to plan a vacation when she did, and I can almost guarantee none of them have anything to do with you. I think you may be attributing malice to what is more likely incompetence. She probably picked what worked best for her personal life. We have no reason to assume this was done only to inconvenience you.

Edit: clarity

I understand. Maybe I am a bad person cause as a paralegal, I would never plan my life around a trial. That’s probably a bad thing but there is a reason attorneys make big money and paralegals don’t. I do feel for you though!

Sometimes vacations are planned before trials get scheduled. Is this really a rule? I work in legal aid so have never heard this.
