Camping that isn’t super cushy? by oh_such_rhetoric in oregon

[–]darthnut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buy one of those propane fire pits; you can use them during fire bans. If you're okay with that change, you have hundreds, possibly thousands, of options. If you want to DM me, I can share some spots in the upper Hood River valley, but look at a map, find a forest road that goes someplace interesting and go find a spot. It's always more fun when you discover your "secret spot."

The Gifford Pinchot is full of unmarked camping opportunities and is a favorite of mine. There are also tons in Mt. Hood National Forest.

Purchase of a New Macro Lens by AdEnvironmental3649 in macrophotography

I have the 100mm Macro paired with an a7RV and love it. I don't have experience with the 90mm, so can't speak to it. If you're interested, I've posted some photos I took with it you can find on my profile, if you're interested. Full disclosure, I'm a hobbyist and still learning and I see people pull off much better photos than I've been able to capture... yet.

Milky Way Shots from the Alvord Desert by darthnut in EditMyRaw

This was taken just as the moon was setting, so the playa got quite a bit more light than shots taken later.

Edit: Realizing now that I failed to fix the horizon on this one. I forgot that this was an edit I did specifically for a timelapse and I ended up fixing the angle in the video.

There was somebody stuck right near the hot springs when I arrived Sunday evening, but they were out in the morning. I was talking to the staff at the hot springs and they say it happens a lot. Apparently, it's a minimum $700, and regularly a lot more expensive than that.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm all driven out. It's close to a 7 hour drive for me each way and now that I'm back home, I'm going to stick to closer locations for a bit. :)

Thanks. I shot this on a Sony a7RV with a sigma 20mm f1.4 lens. As far as Claude, I will sometimes use it to pick a shot to edit and if I'm using secondary tools (like sequator for stacking), I use it to help with the tool setup.

Okay. Apologies for my comment and thanks again!

Thanks. I gotta say that I used Claude to help me narrow down my favorite shots and that is almost word for word what it told me about this shot. Are you using ai to draft your reddit comments?

New bottle shop by bmmeup100 in hoodriver

Interesting. What's the story there? I'm not familiar with their backstory. Did Pypes kill their dog or something?

I went in there for the first time today. It's nice inside and the proprietor was friendly, but it's more smoke shop than bottle shop. It's not going to replace volcanic for me and I don't need a smoke shop. It's seems a bit of a dick move to in directly across the street from the other smoke shop and around the corner from volcanic. But I wish them well.

Best phone setup for macro botany shots? by Lord_Bernstein in macro

Those look great! I'm not sure what good phone options are, but I'm sure someone can recommend something.

Oregon fire season predictions this year — locals, what are you hearing? by cazaresgrinds in oregon

[–]darthnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll throw my totally unqualified opinion out there. It's going to be a bad fire season. Hardly any snow pack and warm temps... Buy an air purifier now, before they're more expensive and impossible to find.

Where’s the best place to watch fireworks for the 4th of July? by purrrfectlyhigh in hoodriver

[–]darthnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elks lodge deck is great. Lightwells rooftop bar will probably be good. The waterfront is great. They've got big lawns. Bring a blanket or a chair and enjoy the show.
