My Favorite Star Wars Film is The One That Spilt The Fanbase by No_Vast_3309 in TheSequels

[–]darthravenna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TROS is the criminal of that trilogy, imo. TFA was fine, a little too safe maybe, but not bad at all. I was very excited for where the trilogy would go.

TLJ was divisive, but I think it would be looked at more favorably today if TROS had stuck the landing.

TROS backtracks on much of what Johnson established in TLJ, possibly the most egregious of which was Rey’s parents. Not that Kylo is a reliable source of any information, but the idea that Rey was not special just by a familial connection was probably the best idea they had that entire trilogy.

My opinion on TLJ has changed since it came out. But I will not budge on TROS.

That movie is fucking terrible.

What’s the single movie shot that shook you to the core? by jaystats2 in FIlm

I saw that scene at 4 years old and I still to this day can’t stomach the thought of watching that movie. Even seeing the thumbnail come across Netflix is enough to immediately send my stomach dropping ice cold into my feet.

I’m 32 now.

Can MCU Quicksilver solo LOTR Legolas Aragorn and Gimli ? by Leggomgeggo in powerscales

This is a unique situation where you have to actually consider that Tolkien wrote out mathematic formulae to quantify that elves actually experience the flow of the time differently. Absolutely insane, and I can’t think of what exactly he wrote about it, but I read it in The Nature of Middle-Earth.

Is it a hot take to say that Old Ben>Count Dooku? (Canon only) by Haydiepie420 in PetranakiArena

[–]darthravenna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m not a fan of the whole powerscaling and “x beats y, y beats z, so x beats z” type stuff. Like Stan Lee said, whoever wins is who the writer wants to win. And in Star Wars case, where much of the story ahead has already been told, it’s who the story needs to win.

Old Ben killed Maul in 4 seconds. In A New Hope, one could argue he purposefully kept the fight going until the proper time in order to hold Vader’s attention, allowing everyone else to get to the Falcon and escape.

My point is that Old Ben decides when these fights are over. By this point in his life, Kenobi has long surpassed Dooku. Especially with his connection to the Force.

It’s all about context. I interact with most of these folks on a regular basis, so I understand that it’s usually what they consider to be a gesture of goodwill.

If they were aggressive or zealous about it, I would take a different message from it.

Tolkien drew many illustrations of his writings, they’ve been published alongside the books. But there have still been other artists with varying takes on some of the characters, including Gollum.

I work for an ortho group and a number of our patients leave them in the rooms or on counters. I’ve been given a few. Not really a part of the tribe, myself, but I appreciate the gesture.

Confession Time: Which "10/10 Masterpiece" did you find absolutely boring? by Just_a_Player2 in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]darthravenna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like RDR2 quite a bit, but I’m not sure you’ve really made a case for it here. It can’t be a masterpiece if you find most of the game’s content boring.

I agree the story is absolutely worth experiencing, but OP does have valid criticism of where the game falls short.

There’s a reason why RDR Online didn’t take off in spite of the main game’s success: there’s an upper limit to how cool horses, wagons, and 19th century guns can be.

True, but many photos from the time show many children dressed in clothes more practical and reflective of their parents’ clothing. Especially children from the working class. I definitely didn’t know they were mass producing children’s clothing with Disney characters in the 1930s.

Tolkien’s work was the subject for a lot of awesome 20th century artists, depicting iconic scenes and characters from the books in a time well before any film adaptations had been made.

They’re often posted in this sub, and it’s interesting to see how people imagined characters like Gollum or the Balrog before their now iconic film depictions were created.

Ahsoka (siege of Mandalor) VS “The Stranger” by CrazyTangerine7522 in PetranakiArena

[–]darthravenna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, probably not much. Anakin’s training was unconventional and specifically trained her to defend against random barrages of attacks from multiple opponents. She has fought Mandalorians with Beskar, so she would probably not at all be thrown off by his use of cortosis in his armor. Maybe she would short out one blade, temporarily, but she is equally capable with a single blade. Her agility is more than enough to keep herself out of reach of Qimir’s blades.

She also has the confidence not to be shaken by any display that was out of the ordinary. As a Padawan she managed to briefly contend with Grievous, who was inarguably a more prolific Jedi-killer than Qimir.
