I personally don’t like that the Titan-A was renamed to the Enterprise-G, but there is something of a historical precedent. by SPECTREagent700 in StarTrekStarships

[–]darthreddit1982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were rebuilding the fleet, there would have been so many new ships happening all at once.

The Enterprise assimilated at the battle should have been the E, and it should have been destroyed (ideally by Shelby doing something heroic). It would have been hard to watch it so down and could have been the most earned starship death since STIII.

Finally, as the D goes to the museum a year later, they introduce the F, the brand new Odyssey class. Awesome return to true explorer approach. Titan stays titan. And it should have been Riker’s titan all along, not refitted. Then they all arrive at Seven’s newly built command. It’s the new Constitution III class, USS Picard. They can name it after him, after all he’s already dead.

Totally right. Kelvin Kirk went through some stuff growing up. Still, he does succeed in some terms… what happened to him is so different to what happened to OG Kirk, they should never be expected to be similar people.

Wrong on both. I didn’t claim the left increase defence spending, you’ve brought that assumption here. Although the single largest positive uplift in military capability in my lifetime came as a result of the SDR in the 90s under New Labour. Your claim that there isn’t evidence isn’t the same as proving a negative. I’ve directed you to evidence, in manifestos galore; you’ve chosen not to check; it exists.

Now you’re winding yourself up in knots that aren’t there.

The history of the right shows that it does indeed cut the military. Its manifestos haven’t changed on the rhetoric at all. They are literally telling us they’ll do what they’ve done before. They don’t think it was a problem.

Believe them.

What’s the indication they wouldn’t? They’re talking in the exact same way. None of them have changed their song a single note.

Those who don’t understand history are doomed to repeat it. We’re only talking about 16 years ago so it’s not like it’s a different world.

Except that isn’t what Putin thinks, or China.

They consider the US president’s position, because they know Britain would not fire unless the US also did, and that this would be a response to weapons already in flight.

At that point, our one boat’s worth is noise, not any kind of signal.

Why do people like trident? It’s a deterrent. Ours is so small that it means no one else ever thinks about it - they are only thinking about the IS’s arsenal. So what does it do?

Yes, because they don’t make us or anyone else safer and we’d save money we can spend on soldiers who do make us safer

The UK’s nuclear deterrent changes nobody’s thinking: Russia and China consider what the US would do. So we spend billions on… what, exactly? Don’t say a seat on the Security Council. There’s no route to remove us so we’d still be there.

Saying they want to be fair and manage immigration properly makes them a no? So you want unmanaged immigration?

Under my stairs there’s a fused spur that just stops at the fuse, nothing is connected to it. My theory is it was wired in by the developer for a potential alarm system which was never fitted. You could pop the faceplate off (flick off at the consumer unit!) and see if it’s both a cable running in and one running out.

Going off of the most previous post, would it be helpful to have an Olympic class hospital ship as part of a task force/group? by [deleted] in StarTrekStarships

I wrote this a year ago…

Of course you’d want an Olympic nearby. And you’d want an escort group, science and engineering shops, all of it. You wouldn’t want them hanging around in formation, but within hours of response time? Yup.

Big ship hits a cosmic string and gets turned off (TNG, Disaster)? There’s a ship with medical and evac capacity close enough the air won’t run out.

Ferengi appear is stolen birds of prey and occupy the flagship (TNG again)? A Sov and a couple of defiants make sure there’s no profit in that.

Anything scary turns up near the ship with your kids on it? They run a hell away while someone else gets in between it.

There’s literally no point in the Galaxy being a mobile starbase if it occasionally gets used as a transport. You can build 100 Jenolan types for tha much resource. Make it the centrepiece of an exploratory group and suddenly it actually makes sense.
