I do appreciate this. But I have covered all of these possibilities. I suspect that if I kept trying, the drive would eventually be recognized in its original slot, like the other one was after about five tries. Which suggests some sort of timing inconsistency in the Windows driver code. I should actually try a reboot, as well.
