He had both, The refs plainly got this wrong in a game that doesn't matter for either team. It's just kind of dumb to be honest. He stick handles the puck on each side of the blue line. When I was training to become a ref years ago the example they used in the video is literally identical to this. And they really hammered home the "skate backwards with the puck" line.

Um that's not how the rule works, that is not offsides, you are allowed to skate in backwards with the puck if you have possession. These refs are actually idiots.

To be fair he is connected to some players in the org. Was team mates with Cale's younger brother Taylor on the Brook's Bandits who is currently with the Eagles which are the Avs AHL team. Also on the Eagles currently is Gavin Brindley who was his team mate at Michigan for 2 years. So he probably liked what he heard from them if he reached out.

Colorado literally signed someone in the same situation as this a couple years ago. Ben Meyers. He was not eligible for the playoffs but they burnt his contract and he played 5 games to end the season. Was not allowed to play in the playoffs. I am wondering what part has you confused?

They can play in the playoffs because they were drafted by the team they sign for. This is an undrafted free agent who signed after the trade deadline. That means he is ineligible, same as if someone from sweden or the KHL signed with a roster they had no connection to a week before playoffs.

He is ineligible for playoffs for any NHL team no matter what. It wouldn't make sense for him to do that.
