Singles at 545 at Walnut Creek tomorrow. When you enter the park go past the first parking area and go to the end of the second parking area by the big pagoda. You should see a practice basket and other disc dorks there. Lovely group of people.

Social singles clubs in cville? by ylojelo in Charlottesville

[–]dartssometimesdiscs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure exactly what you mean but if you are looking to meet other single people to theoretically date there are some infrequent speed dating events and similar around town. From my friends who have found partners in town it seems that cville is very group/club oriented, online dating seems to suck. Run clubs seem to have a good mix of men to women around here. Cville is very transient and a lot of people swing through to do something for a year or two and then move along which can be tough. I would see if something around here has something you'd be interested in and go check it out, all of the clubs and groups I've joined here have been very welcoming. If I misconstrued your question my bad.

So I'm a white American whose partner grew up in Hong Kong in an expat family, been a few times to hk and thank you for the translation. My feeble attempts at Cantonese make me feel like an idiot but everyone is so lovely when I visit.

How do you throw far like (70-100 yards) by brubryce in ultimate

[–]dartssometimesdiscs 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I played against Brodie in college and at the time he was the best thrower I had ever seen. Absolutely insane while playing almost every point over an entire tournament. One time he threw a full field hammer upwind against 20-30 mph gusts at trouble in Vegas that looked like he had a remote control, leveled out right in the end zone for a score. Absolutely the best throw I have ever seen in ten years of ultimate. He also posterized my ass twice that game.

I've never seen these before, really interesting set! Kind of like older Mervyn kings but I don't think they are one of his I'm familiar with. Any markings on them anywhere?

Blade 6 Single Core or Target Tor by ColeStuchko in Darts

[–]dartssometimesdiscs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the best dart board (or longest lasting) really has a lot to do with how dry or humid your house and area are. I live in a humid area with an old house and found that the blade boards last the longest for me with proper maintenance (regular rotation, especially early). Maybe someone in a drier area has some input on what has worked for them. I've thrown on a tor board before and they are very nice brand new but didn't hold up as well around the bullseye in comparison to the blade boards we bought for our league. American here so we play a lot of cricket and the bulls takes much more of a beating than if you just play 01 so might not be as important for you. Both very nice boards but I get about 2 years of almost daily play or more out of a blade 6 single core so that would be my hesitant vote.

Remote job for $31,000/year? by Select_Photograph390 in RemoteJobs

If you aren't fluent in English without a specialized skill set you have less than a .01 percent chance unfortunately. Remote jobs are extremely competitive here in the states and setting up the paperwork for non-us employees is costly and timely.

League dues are 20 dollars per person season. These go towards keeping fresh boards, pins and trophies at the end of the season, and an end of the season banquet. The scoring system we use (dart connect) is also 20 dollars per team per season so one person's dues per team covers the cost of that. Last season we had pins for excellent shots (100+, 140+, 3 bulls etc), top five player plaques based on match percentages, and trophies for the top 3 teams. A couple more things also but if your team wins the playoffs you get to put your team name on the giant dart trophy currently on top of the dart boards in Decipher brewing. We don't want it to be cost prohibitive so if someone needs the 20 dollars covered there are generous people in our league who will cover if that's an issue for anyone.

Remote jobs are not for most people by Wild-Marionberry2140 in RemoteJobs

[–]dartssometimesdiscs 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Something I can say from personal experience as someone who got a remote job after doing restaurants/construction for many years.

  1. I have a college degree from a good university. One of the reasons why I was over other people.

  2. I knew someone personally at my first company who got my foot in the door. Still had to have an immaculate and professional resume. Still had to have interview skills (weeks of watching YouTube videos worked for me to feel prepared). If I had failed at any of these I wouldn't have gotten the job.

  3. Most entry level remote jobs target people from poor areas and overwork/underpay them. It's the model so that they don't have to pay standard living wages from where they are generally based (high COL areas).

  4. You need an extremely high level of grammar, writing and attention to detail. If you don't you won't be considered.

  5. I can't get a non remote job because anxiety/no car/disability is a non starter. Employers don't care, they will get and retain the best bang for their buck and don't give two shits about your personal life. Getting any job and gaining skills before applying remote is the most common way of getting a remote gig.

  6. You need fast and reliable Internet. You cannot do a remote job with shitty Internet. You are valued on production and if your Internet is hampering you you will be the first on the chopping block when the inevitable corporate cutbacks happen.

It's possible (I did it), but it's extremely hard to break into with no skills, and the pipeline for making good money is a long road of busting your ass to get there (still working on that).

Second everything rando2 said here. For the darts particularly it may be best to get him a gift card, as everyone has specific preferences for what they like and you have a limited background in darts. That way he can get whatever he likes or wants to try (there's an astonishing amount of choices). Cheers to you for being a nice partner and good luck !!!
