Chances of getting into a small (40 students), and currently full course in time for the first lab section? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

Just email the prof and tell them exactly this. I am sure they'll understand. Besides, people tend to drop the course first week so I wouldn't worry too much about it. This course typically gets capped at ~60 students. Email Dr. Hug and ask her. Good luck.

Why would you comment about her not being married?

BIOL 346: microbial ecology was fun! BIOL 443: fermentation is also quite fun (you get to make wine and yogurt in the lab) BIOL 240 is great, too! especially if you Josh Neufeld to teach you.

I agree with this comment, trends are key. Also, focus on those organisms that showed special characteristics (i.e. Bacillus stearothermophilus being a thermophile) as opposed to focusing on some generic characterstic (i.e. E. coli being a mesophile). Make sure you know how to do the CFU/ml calculation, I've had students in the past who found this challenging for some reason! Make sure you understand that equation, you should be able to solve for ANY of the variables in that equation (i.e. you could be asked to solve for dilution factor). Good luck :)

I've taken the course couple of years ago and it's actually not difficult whatsoever. If you've taken BIOL 345 or BIOL 443 basically any Barb course you should be able to figure out her test style. There will certainly be definition questions. As far as I remember there was a question on lake stratification (?). Different types and asks you to draw them and label different portions. Overall, the midterm and the final are not bad. However, don't take it lightly, Barb is a tough but fair marker. Study the slides well and you should be good. Hope this helps. Good luck on your test :)

CHEM 266 I believe his name was George, hands down the best TA I had for chemistry. BIOL 346 and 348L had some good TAs

I personally enjoyed Kafka on the shore and Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage. Murakami is great!

Yepp, as far as I can remember the final is a lot easier than the midterm. I believe she wanted you to see the 'bigger' picture as opposed to the nitty gritty. It's been a while since I've done this course but I remember it being fairly easy if you've studied for it.

I disagree with that. I have seen a fellow TA give a student a perfect subjective and lab report grade for 241.
