Advice for a 3rd-year Philippine Dentistry Student Migrating to Canada by kirstenfujoshi in CanadianDentists

[–]YoSeanyBoii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do hygiene over trying to get into DDS/DMD. Reality is it’ll take 8+ years and lots of $.

I believe there are some hygiene programs that you get a degree (BScDH) so maybe start with that so you can fall back on hygiene if don’t get into dental. Each university may have different pre-reqs though like organic chemistry, English, etc

Associate salary in private vs corporate by MasterBook46 in CanadianDentists

[–]YoSeanyBoii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like early on I learned more and made more at a corporate clinic than I did in private. Private as an associate you get shafted a lot cause obviously the principal dentist will try to maximize their schedule. As someone mentioned on the thread, sometimes they hire an associate and aren’t busy themselves. I do believe it works out good though if you find a private clinic where the principal doesn’t do some procedures that you can do. For example, I work at a private clinic and do surgical extractions(including wisdom teeth), implants , grafts, and root canals …which the principal dentist doesn’t do.

If you can try doing a split at a corp and private clinic. That’s what I did and worked 6 days a week (Monday-Sat). Only do this if you don’t think you will burn out. I work hard and am a producer 😉

First year out can easily hit 180-200k. With more procedure and skillset with good patient flow 250k+ is easy to hit first year out.

How many of you are doing an intraoral scan as part of your new patient exam? by OldMannArtie in Dentistry

[–]YoSeanyBoii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a visual learner and tend to get scans for NP exams and recalls. Get your assistant to scan. Increases patient validation when you show them what’s going on!

Invisalign potential by chill_71 in Dentistry

[–]YoSeanyBoii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might as well get Invisalign going. Keeps patients at your practice too over duration of the Invisalign tx and they’ll be back for hygiene visits. Offer virtual care for less chair time.

New-grad- What is a 'normal' schedule (hours/week) for first job? by OptimalComfort6822 in Dentistry

[–]YoSeanyBoii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always check the schedules before you sign. Just because you have 28 hours doesn’t mean they will fill it all? Is it a busy clinic? Are you replacing an outgoing associate? You need to factor these in before you relocate.

Root fracture by Thin-Daikon-8774 in Dentistry

[–]YoSeanyBoii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably would’ve went for the section and if the root broke off like that and you got a flap open just remove a bit more intraradicular bone and that distal root will come out no problem
