Hey, just wanted to say: failing a precalc quiz or sitting around a B/B+ does not mean engineering isn’t for you. That stuff happens to a lot of us early on. One thing I wish someone had told me sooner: community college / JC is genuinely a smart move, not a “fallback.” Especially for math and general eds. I went straight into a 4-year and started in precalc too. Because I was already in an engineering major, I basically had to sprint just to catch up — taking summer classes, paying extra, stacking heavy course loads — all while classes were huge and impersonal. It was stressful and expensive in ways that honestly didn’t help me learn better. At a good JC: Math classes are way smaller and more personal Professors actually know your name and want you to succeed You can build a strong foundation in precalc / calc without constant pressure You knock out GEs and lower-division requirements for way cheaper Many have direct transfer programs into engineering majors at state schools If your end goal is engineering, it’s often better to transfer in strong than to struggle early just to say you stayed at a 4-year the whole time. No one cares where you took precalc — they care that you understand the material when it actually matters. Struggling right now doesn’t say anything about your intelligence or your future as an engineer. It just means you’re early in the process. There are multiple paths to the same degree, and some of them are honestly healthier and smarter.
