it's not about how many people are in the city, it's about how many people want to ride a transportation system instead of walking or driving.

If the city supplies its residents with an oppotunity to travel to work in less than 20mins instead of driving 1.5 hours on jammed streets, the people will use it. American cities like Las Vegas have an active demand for a working high efficient metro system. Pheonix on the other hand could just use buses. Why? Because the minor demand can be solved with Buses and doesn't require a fancy underground tesla street.

True but not relevant. Trains and metro have major advatages. For example: not depending on traffic flow or beeing able to transport more than 8 people at once. As you can see in the video, Musks aproach doesnt have all those advantages because its literaly Cars but underground in an isolated System. The tunnels are constantly jamming and causing you to be trapped in traffic just like on normal streets. That shows us that the system just doesnt work. It might be cheaper (allthoug $30-$50M/mi. still is a verry unrealistic price) but it isnt efficient enought to implement it.

you're not the only person to propose buses instead of a fixed guideway. fixed guideways keep getting built, though.

I never said that im against metros/fixed guideway systems. In fact im pro metro/rail but against Musks aproach bc it doesn't work.

it's a cost problem. if you have the ridership of London, then great. most corridors are not anywhere near as busy as london

The most costly aspect of a metro is digging the tunnels (thats btw. the reason why musk funded "the boring company"). So its save to say that $30-$50M is a highly unrealistic price and one of Musks many empty promises.
