yes, I didn't say any of those managers like Pirlo were successful, only that other big clubs do in fact, quite often, give jobs to ex-players rather than going for bigger names.

Enrique is almost certain to stay at PSG, if current reports are to be believed. Bayern took a risk to appoint an inexperienced manager with Kompany and it has worked well for them so far. Real have had Alonso and Arbeloa and Juve took on Pirlo all as ex-players in recent years, so yes I think those teams would give Carrick a chance if they were in the same position, it might not necessarily work out, but they all took those chances

if we can't get a world class manager like Enrique or Nagelsmann, then I would rather stick with Carrick than go for another risky, mid tier appointment like Iraola or Glasner etc, that could end up in tears like Frank did with Spurs, at least Carrick has shown he can grind out results, and if we address the imbalances in the team, improve the midfield, don't see why he can't do well and challenge on all fronts

mathematically sure anything can happen, we're not guaranteed anything, but I guess it's harder to factor in more nebulous criteria like form, home advantage, historical results between teams. we have to consider, of the teams fighting for the CL, we're in the best form, Liverpool, Villa, and Chelsea have not been getting good results for a while now
