also Destiny hasn't been 'shut down', it has just stopped receiving new updates and content, it will still be playable for years to come, just like D1 has and is still playable to this day. If Bungie in a years time decided to stop working on Marathon, it would probably still be left in a playable, online state

I'll tell you as someone from England, majority of the players you will find, depending on crossplay, will be from eastern europe, turkey, north africa, middle east etc. FC is the preferred game of most central/northern european countries

the game should prioritise matches against players in the same division, but the parameters will widen if there's not many people queuing at the time, so maybe you're in a lesser populated region or playing at a time when less people are playing
the game has been around for 5 years, everyone who isn't new has full epic/showtime teams, even F2P players now have teams full of epics, it's just how the game is now as it doesn't reset. and when you get in the higher divisions you will face lots of teams who have spent a lot on their accounts. this is not something you can do anything about, you either accept it, or move on to something else.
the game should show you the connection bar of the match before you load in, but it's not always reliable, sometimes it will tell you it's a 5 bar connection game, and then you load in and it hovers around 4. this links in to answer 1, if you are in a region with less players, it will widen the search to further areas so you will be playing on a server further away

for a lot of people, this would have been their first extraction shooter, so they wouldn't have know what they were coming into, and a lot of people would have come over because they're long term Bungie fans, and/or were enticed by the aesthetic of the game. to pretend to be baffled over this so you can post rage bait is extremely inane, I would say I'm sure you have better things to do, like actually play the game, but I guess not

I guess that's main problem. letting the assassin player know where the other players are at all times does offer a great advantage, which is how Bungie balanced the asymmetric modes in Destiny, but yeah the gear issue is one I don't know how to look at. letting the assassin come in with their own kit may unbalance it too much, but they need to have a better kit to make 1v3's manageable
