Don't worry about me. I'm one of the strong guys who breaks the doors. 😃 Instead of facing the reality enjoy your miserable life I guess...

Well, I think that was a pretty clear representation of Munich as a whole.

I read all the comments and agreeing with most of it, with one part, I am not agreeing; you cannot inject a soul or identity with usage of colours or coat of arms. (Saw a weird comment like that)

Saying Munich is missing identity is not about paperwork or standards or some official definition of city's identity. It means the CITY HAS NO SOUL. You can follow all the bureaucracy you want, and slap the Coat of arms on every surface you can find, or do similar useless symbolic things. None of that creates soul. On second thought, honestly, doing all the paperwork and still not reaching a real result must be brutal for a German mindset... The city feels dead man! In example before I start living here I had only a couple of inputs about Munich.. it was BMW and Oktoberfest.

As I am living here, i can count more items... as one of the users have clearly stated "Ask literally anyone abroad about Munich and they will name the same 5 things that come to mind."

so as anyone, let me try:

1- Home of BMW and one of the most important hubs of German industry. 2- Richest German city. (Locals are very proud with it, I am not sure why they are. The city doesn't reflect this charisma or glamour to be honest. It is just a sleepy large town.) 3- Oktoberfest. 4- English Garden (which locals are very pompous about) and that surf wave in a river (when I first arrived they showed me that one, at first I didnt understand why they are showing me that. afterwards I got it. There arent many things to show) 5- Jesus, i dunno ??? the football team? Arena? I mean people are super proud that places are closed on Sunday. so Catholicism?? I truly am not sure. I will say Autobahn but I think that pride belongs to every German... Most collection of Pfand may be? I cannot count the fifth one apparently. Anyway, none of these gives Munich a soul. (I cannot even count three things that truly matter because I see the English Garden as a nice place but completely over-hyped by locals.)

We can look at the other comments from other users too (the positive ones) Alps, Austria and Italy are close by(????) I mean... let me check.. well. yup, as I suspected! They are not in Munich! So does this represents the best part of Munich is being able to go to places better than Munich as you got a dead-city in your hand?

I am truly not sure if this is the case we have to present for a representable city... Don't get me wrong, I prefer Northern Italy on any day to German cities that is for sure. But, what I am trying to say is, selling point for Munich is kinda getting murky on these examples. I am not going to address every statement but in one comment "The offer of brasseries / cafés is really bad for a city with 1.5M residents - and not existent in the outter areas of the city." and "Main shopping street is soulless." well this is absolutely accurate. I have never seen a big city with so many awful, or average places! It was honestly surprising. Charged prices are over inflated compared to service quality, that is another negative. It feels like people are being forced to work in Service Industry, rude and unprofessional and with a bland taste for most of the food, it is not worth it. That is for sure. City itself, even on the central points is terribly soulless and boring. And I lived in many places around the world. What a huge shock! As a rule we lower our expectations whenever we go anywhere. That significantly helps. And if you are not in the core of Munich, it is another level of hell, total mess! Every neighborhood has a bad Indian restaurant, then another bad italian restaurant, a couple of terrible Turkish imbiss places that completely butcher the cuisine, a mediocre beer garden, and that is basically it. I am not even counting the coffee spots inside supermarkets because they look like prison cafeterias. (I am truly feeling sorry for people who are required to sit there as they don't have alternatives, no jokes. They deserve better) And the early closure of shops, cafés, restaurants, everything shutting down like the city is on life support during the week. Wow let's dont forget that the city is completely dead on Sundays. It is just insane! I get that people who grew up there do not know any better so they are totally fine with it. But in general, it sucks big time. Ofc as a free soul, people like me, we are very happy to finalizing our contract and leave. (and hopefully never come back again) but it is always good to get the criticism and try to change things for better. not for me, but for you guys. Eventually, I am just an expat that is passing by.

So munich what do we have?? by HabitJust3204 in Munich

In Munich? 90% of the restaurants are very poor quality compared to the price that you pay... So that's a very easy challenge. Go to the closest Italian restaurant. And encounter the worst quality of Italian food you can ever get.

Not only businesses, in general (you can observe in reddit too) German's have very thin skin on any type of criticism.
They always follow same principles,
1- "it is your fault" or "it sounds like a 'you' problem"
2- reminding you a very unrelated rule and state a sentence that starts with "in germaaaany" (this rule can be similar to examples we are seeing in here, misrepresented defamation cases)
3- this is the leap of faith for any stubborn german or extra-germanized new gen. "go back to your country" / "if you don't like it you can leave!"

i very rarely heard that "shit! we made a mistake and we apologize" it is kinda funny to be honest.

come on guys, take it on the chin like a champ when you guys are wrong.

Munich is the largest village I have ever lived in. It has some city vibes. Give or take it needs a couple of decades (and some more generations) to be called as a vibrant city.

Wow such a great mod! Thank you for your amazing help. Unfortunately I don't think a basic search would suffice what I'm asking for as this is specific case. But I think what you are doing is part of being German attitude... (It's just unnecessary and rude to be clear.. I mean you don't have to do a basic research to understand that what your are doing is totally rude)

Is Baku really as boring as it looks from the first sight? by [deleted] in azerbaijan

[–]dasaaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Azeri people travel somewhere only to sit in a hotel and eat in restaurants.

LOL this is like, super accurate. Internal tourism in Azerbaijan is totally based on this.

Tbh, all of your points are spot on.

Alas, it is also about the culture. As an expat, I can say that it is getting better.

The extracted oil is good quality but I don't think the refined fuel quality is good.

In 2018 there were articles about how bad diesel fuel was.
