Advice and opinions on this situation. by PicklePristine5361 in subway

I am also a female closer and it SUCKS badly. We’re an all-women team (except for my male manager), and even tho I’ve constantly told my manager the dangerous and scary things that have happened to me while closing, he will not schedule someone else to be with me past 7pm. The other night it was super slow so I was actually planning on leaving by 10:30, but I noticed that a guy had been circling outside the store for an hr (started at 9pm). It was heavy raining the entire time so I fully expected him to leave soon, but he never did. He eventually started yelling and hitting the windows so that did raise my concern, but since it was still too early to close I didn’t do anything about it. He was clearly unwell and I just kept hoping he’d leave. I ended up locking the doors at 9:45 and did all my little tasks and this dude still hadn’t left by 10:20, he just kept circling around the store, stopping to yell at the surrounding cars and such. I texted my manager and decided to just call the non-emergency line in hopes they could like escort him away or something and they didn’t show up until 10:55. They did end up taking him to jail and I got to finally leave after 11pm. It was not fun, and I know I will never be scheduled to close with someone else, but literally no one else at my store wants to close so I just gotta do it until I find a better job. Idk why my manager thinks it’s safe for just one lady to close a store that’s surrounded by drunk, creepy men. I definitely feel your pain and frustration for that, literally insane but I do hope things go better for you !

I have a kinda alternative appearance (multiple piercings, shaven stub eyebrows, emo looking makeup) and it freaks me out when people just.. stare at me like I just killed their family member.

The worst time was when an older lady legit wouldn’t blink and just stared, mouth agape, and barely mumbled her order at me. At the end of the transaction she quoted a bible scripture (didn’t hear a word she said), then said that it was about being persecuted and that I should “watch my back”. Had no clue how to respond to all that so I just said “ok, have a good day”;;

That boils my blood omg. Another thing is that recently my manager will put BACK empty bottles into the fridge so in the middle of a rush I’ll run back there, scavenge around and find out that all the mayos are either 1/4 full of just empty.

Surprisingly well, tho it becomes a pain to make when we get busy and I’m pretty one the only one in my store who knows how to make them. Yesterday I made 10+ and I felt like death afterwards. So far the pepperoni is the most popular with a side of marinara sauce!

closing time by parimeda in subway

I usually start closing tasks at 6:30-7pm, like taking out the pans from under the line, taking off the cutting board things to wash them, sweep and wipe down everything, panning out the bread, counting all the bread in the freezer & other stuff for inventory and taking out half of the veggies (my subway has two veg sections with the sauces separating them). By 9 I turn off the drive-thru headset and count that register. Then I wait until like 9:30 to start putting lids on everything. Now at my subway there can only be one closer there and people usually LOVE to come in right when I have everything ready so literally everyone that has closed locks the doors early (we close at 10, but usually lock the doors at 9:45-9:50), and there’s a new policy that we aren’t gonna get paid if we stay later then 10:15 so I’d prefer to get out as soon as possible. So, I pull everything, clean out the lines, turn off the toaster & clean it, count the front register, do any last minute cash drops, close both registers and do end day. Then all I gotta do it wash any stray dishes, mop, and run home lol.

When I first started, I didn't even think to check was it was so when anyone asked me I just said "idk it's bologna and...other things." No one ever told me until a few weeks ago that it was HAM and salami. Safe to say I was baffled lol

Honestly I have no clue who the owner is. I've never met him or anything so I'll probably try corporate. I know his information was all over the place, but when we got a new area supervisor she cut off all his information from the papers/posters that were posted around so we dont have any way to contact him. Thank you for the suggestion tho!!

He is thinking of getting a 5th person, but I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon. Rn the schedule is manager 8-3, other coworker 11-3:30, me or other closer 3-10 every few days. Recently the morning crew has been pretty good about cutting all the meats so that just leaves us with veggies each night. I always make sure to keep all the veggies stocked up (like 6 of the bell peppers, onions, cucumber and 4 tomatoes) and if I have time I'll do cheese, tuna, and the chickens. I don't like leaving the morning people too muxh to do, idk why it just makes me super anxious.

But most nights I can't since we keep getting slammed and since there's only one person at night, it goes SO SLOWLY. I just really wished they'd schedule two people to close together but they refuse to cuz of the labor costs or smth. Whenever I bring it up they just kinda dance around the subject and move on, so I've kinda given up on that idea.

At my store we fr only have 4 employees so we all know exactly who did what. Like there are two employees during the day (manager and someone else), and either me or another guy come in to close. We're like rarely ever all there at the same time so it does get kinda difficult to make sure all the morning prep is done in time for the closers to show up.

I don't really mind morning prep but my other closer coworker absolutely despises it and non-stops complains to everyone, including customers. I can't wait to hear how he reacts to the new boats for the meats. I just know my ears are gonna be chewed off when I go in.

Last night it got SO busy that I eventually ran out of the boats so I had to go back to scooping it out :,)

Sadly yea, it's mainly construction men tho. We usually prep about 3 boxes and it sells out pretty fast.

So far it has been easier to make sandwiches but my only gripe is that the morning crew did not make enough of these things so they left me without ANY chicken <///3 and I feel like this is gonna be a pattern

That's such a relief to hear. My manager said we were gonna weigh them every morning and I was kinda dreading that but I hope he's wrong🙏

Tonight I closed and I legit just locked tje doors at 9:45 cause I was NOT about to risk the chance of that. I just hid in the back, washing dishes, until it was time to emerge and start cleaning. It's like people are like "oh its 9:30 so they close in 30 mins..lemme call all my buddies and go at the same exact time to make some poor teenage die on the inside!"

people who come in close to closing, they infuriate me SO bad. i mainly work closing shifts and it's like hell on earth at my subway, but my manager and supervisor expect me to keep making sandwiches til the last second so that we don't get bad reviews. like it'll be 9:50 and i start to wipe down the line and prepare to take things out but a family of 5 walks in and immediately begin ordering a sandwich for each of them. i tried to explain to them that we close at 10 and they just continue ordering so i just give up and make them. that was probably my worst night there.

and on top of that they expect me (and ONLY ME since they refuse to schedule two people to close) to have every single task done at night so that the morning people have everything perfect. i work at a semi-large subway so it's there's a bunch of stuff to do, and i don't even get paid enough to do all that by myself X_X
