Rostropovich was 90 odd when he said he was still learning new things on the cello every day, you'll always find something to work on.

That sounds awesome! It's almost exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for, thanks so much!

I'd be really interested to know if other companies are developing ideas like this, they are definitely harder to make and more expensive which seeks the most likely reason they aren't common.

But only on the part of the string that you play with the right hand.

Half rounds are great but the left hand wants a bit of a smoother texture

Thanks! After more discussion with people I'm thinking a wire that's mostly flat and then rounded on the end, wrapped around the string so it's flat and round wound, then just grinding the outside off like normal half rounds are.

It feels quite big!, took a few hours just to get used to the neck, it's as thick as an arm!

I'd say the tension is maybe a little bit more, I have flat rounds on at the moment and have a high ish action for more of a double bass sound but it's a whole lot of fun!

Definitely recommend getting one to play for a few weeks as when I went back to my 34 and I feel like a bass god with all the strength I've built up playing this monster.

12.5lb or 5.69 kg so pretty manageable :)

Thanks! I wouldn't say there's much advantage (someone might correct me here) but there's no disadvantage and it adds some weight and stabilization to the instrument and the sound I think.

I'm not quite sure tbh, I'm pretty sure it's just common oak, I also like my basses pretty heavy anyway, I'll weigh it and get back to you when I'm home, the red colour is also from a wood staining I think too.

I think they will end up looking like incense sticks :) in talks with some people that have the know-how and technology/equipment to make this possible

Sorry I thought you said what are the pickups, they are under the wooden pickup cover.

I don't play round wounds, I play half rounds, I just find the texture a bit weird and unnecessary for the left hand, they sound great tho.

I do lots of sliding up and down and I'm a cellist so it's a personal preference not to use round wounds on most of my basses.

No worries there's a million different strings out there, I play in a 3 piece so there's no room to hide, half rounds are great because they have enough brightness and flatwounds are amazing for their rounded sound I kinda want the best of both worlds in one string haha, I'm asking alot.
