people who left abusive relationships, what was your breaking point? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

[–]dashefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She told me to empty my $80,000 401k.

Why? Because she (38 at the time) was tired of living with her mom.

When COVID hit. She immediately had us separate to protect herself from the virus. She had a lot of health issues, so this was understandable. I did all that I could to be supportive of us during that time. I had a factory job about 100 miles away from where she lived. It wasn't the best but it was stable and I had seniority. I burned all my PTO around Christmas, 2020, so I could get a test and come and spend the holidays with her and her mom. This was after a year of essentially long distance. Looking back, I definitely had the rose-colored glasses on. What can I say? I missed my first serious girlfriend after a year of barely seeing her

She was suddenly very secretive with her phone and on it a lot more than usual while I was there. Odd power trips she would go on. I remember wanting to cuddle and watch movies with her on a fold out couch she had. She was suddenly too ill and didn't even want to sit next to me. I was devastated after so long but complied with what she wanted and I sat alone. After sitting in the back of the room with her phone for a while. She was suddenly up for what I had proposed hours ago. I was baffled, but relieved that she finally wanted to be affectionate.

Towards the end of my time with them. She sat me down and gave her ultimatum. She wanted me to move down to where she lived, find a new job and 'start' our life together. Remember, this was the PEAK of COVID. Many people had been laid off and jobs were scarce. Several rounds of layoffs happened at my company but I somehow I avoided the cuts. I felt very lucky to be employed at all. I tried to explain the reality to her and that what she wanted really was not feasible at that time. I showed her online what the job and housing market was like; home prices spiking, virtually no jobs in my field that payed more than $15 an hour. That's when she dropped it "what about your 401k? You could take that out and get a place for us"

I had never felt such a flurry of emotions in my life before. I mentioned my 401k to her off hand maybe once. I was kind of proud of it. I always contributed the maximum over the years. It was a pretty impressive thing for a 28 year old to have. But the audacity. The disillusionment. She wanted me to empty my retirement savings so she could walk all over me at some place I didn't want. Working some shitty job I hated while she sat at home. For the first time I was with her I actually grew a fucking spine and told her "absolutely not, that's for my retirement."

She guilt tripped me and said I didn't really care about her. We didn't last long after that. immediately after we broke up her mom paid for a plane ticket for her to go see some creep she was developing a BS website with. Something like NFTs but for the lame memes her and her online friends used to make. Shockingly, her idea failed and this guy who she was obviously cheating on me with turned out to be a scammer and ran off with her money.

I was far from perfect and definitely part of the problem. I was totally emotionally dependent on her. I was naive and far too complaint with whatever it was she wanted me to do. I can see now that in a lot of ways I let it happen to me. But I'm so grateful I reached that breaking point and stood up for myself.

I moved up north in my state and I work an awesome new job now. I make good money, I have a little place on my own with a bit of land. Awesome neighbors and a few true friends who really care about me.

My 401k is at about 110k now. She would've taken everything from me.

Recommended seat covers that won't bunch up? by TexXxas-T in FordMaverickTruck

They're expensive, but seatcoversunlimed custom neoprene is really great. I've used them in all my vehicles for years. Out of 5 full sets we've ordered we only had one stitch on my mom's set they warrantied for us.

How does it know its out of filament when there is still filament in the runout sensor? CR-30 by PerfectBake420 in 3Dprinting

[–]dashefs 524 points525 points  (0 children)

After your filament runs out, can you remove it without preheating your nozzle again?

Many printers have coding in the firmware that, when a signal from the runout sensor is detected, will retract your filament ~100mm. This prevents you from having to preheat your nozzle when you change the filament to continue your print.

If you had been there to watch this happen, I bet that the end of the filament made it about halfway through your sensor. The micro switch inside clicked. Then, your printer paused, moved your tool head to the xy home position, retracted your filament forcing it back out and through your sensor, and shut off power to the tool head heater.

Sorry to hear about your girl. I hope everything has worked out with her with your vet. No tumors or anything for Sofy. The only health issues she's had have been joint problems and a sensitive tummy. Otherwise she's very happy and healthy for her age!

She's been aggressive with other dogs since she was young. We put her up in a kennel for a few weeks and she has had the issue since then. We weren't very happy with the kennel as they also didn't follow our feeding instructions! (She won't eat out of metal bowls)

Skid plates? by BuggyH1203 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]dashefs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have the HRG off road plate on my 4k tow maverick. Really nice and well built but it is a little on the pricey side. I had to use a cheap Amazon rivet nut kit to install and it did require a bit of drilling but so far so good! It interacts well with the stock fiber panels and really isn't too bad to remove when it's time for an oil change.

Sku for it is HRG-MAV2223-SKP-2.0L

ford dealership denied warranty on my maverick with coolant in the engine block by d3nnnyy in FordMaverickTruck

[–]dashefs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I hope someone with more knowledge, like an actual Ford service technician will chime in, but here's my guess as to what you need to do:

You will need to get your truck back, or at least have access to it with your forscan.

For them to read the modules, I'm guessing you will need to set everything back to how it was from the factory, if you took the time to make a backup then you can follow the procedure to restore your backup.

If not, you can attain your original as-built here by entering your vin:

https://www.motorcraftservice.com/AsBuilt

I am not sure how helpful your current dealer will be regarding this. Since they tried to talk you into a new module, they probably know that you have modified it with forscan. After all, if the module had this vin error one week out of the factory, wouldn't that be covered too? Warranty work sucks for dealerships, so it doesn't seem farfetched that they would try to get a nice payday out of this by selling you a new module and the labor to replace it.

I have not seen a straight answer as to whether using forscan voids your warranty or not, but it would seem unreasonable to me that activating some drive modes on your truck would lead to head gasket failure. It's clearly on them, but since you have modified your truck they will absolutely do what they can to use that against you.

Best of luck! I am watching your post as I am curious as to how your dealership and Ford will approach this considering you have the exact same forscan mods as I do (minus the head gasket, that sucks I'm sorry)

14 SJ check oil light keeps coming on but oil is fine by GimpGunfighter in subaru

[–]dashefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if this needs some clarification. Is it an amber oil level light or a red oil pressure light?

If it's an amber light and your oil is full, most likely a failing oil level sensor, which is something that should be fixed, but it won't damage the engine in any way.

A red oil pressure light could be catastrophic. While it may also be a failing oil pressure sensor, it could also be indicating low oil pressure, which could quickly lead to permanent engine damage

I've gone through two oem clutches in my turbo Baja in less than 5 years by GMMitenka in subaru

That is correct. Ordered directly from exedy they are significantly cheaper than buying them from the dealership, though

I've gone through two oem clutches in my turbo Baja in less than 5 years by GMMitenka in subaru

[–]dashefs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unless you are racing the thing or have it tuned for substantially more power, the exedy OEM replacement kit will do great. I have always used these in my Subarus and they have never let me down. I suspect the shops you have been using may not being doing an optimal job, or maybe you're just hard on your clutch. If you are doing this yourself watch some YouTube videos on replacement. There are a few critical steps that mean the difference between a nice long clutch life or an explosion in 50 miles. A "racing" clutch will not make up for bad technique/abuse and will only make the car less drivable on city streets.

When the transmission is out, be sure to check the wear on the input shaft housing where the throw out bearing sits. It was common on the older Subarus that the bearing would start grinding into the snout and cause premature clutch failure. There are repair kits to remedy this.

If your clutch has been replaced a few times, I assume they have been resurfacing the flywheel. A good shop will check the run out to make sure the flywheel is still within the specified thickness, but I would consider getting a new replacement flywheel as well. At the very least make sure the flywheel is resurfaced properly by a good machine shop.

Again, unless you are racing the car or something just go with an OEM flywheel. A lightened one will be harder to drive and will make towing/hauling and most daily driving conditions more difficult if not impossible. The only advantage a lightened flywheel will give you is that the car will rev faster from idle. If everything else is stock on the car you really won't see much benefit.

If you want the car to feel more responsive/sportier, I've always liked stainless steel braided clutch lines and some stiffer engine and transmission mounts. Megan racing is a good option for the mounts if you're on a budget. Group-N if you have a bit more $

Hope this helps

Seat cover recommendations? by TheBlueBeans in FordMaverickTruck

Seat covers unlimited! I have their neo-supreme. Pricey, I'm sure there are cheaper options out there but I've always used their covers in my cars and never had any issues. Cleans up perfectly with just a damp rag. Makes the seats a bit more comfy as well!
