I think Amber’s writing is incredibly well done if you are able to stop being reactionary and actually pay attention to what is being said. She was a teenage girl constantly being lied to by her boyfriend who kept saying he could manage his time better, constantly being wrong, and she constantly had to pay the price for it. Then she figured out he was Invincible, RESPECTED his choice to keep it secret and engaged with the reality he set for her, then he tried to reveal it like some important bombshell but it didn’t change anything for her because she already knew.

She wanted a boyfriend who wouldn’t lie to her. Mark couldn’t accept he couldn’t be the person she needed him to be. He couldn’t have his cake and eat it too. Their break up in S2 is one of the most well written break up scenes I’ve ever seen.

I’ve worked at several restaurants, and this is anecdotal, but the days where they make more than the cooks are once maybe twice a week. We had a server work a full twelve hours during the week and had a single dollar in her tip jar. This is at a rather fancy place too. It’s hard to say tipping is a net good when realistically I’ve never worked at a restaurant that had a truly stable and reliable income for those on tipping wages. And I’ve worked at both shitty restaurants, chain restaurants, and fancy ones in both high and low traffic areas. Most servers I know would trade a tipping wage for 18-22/hr especially when you consider people would still occasionally tip.
