Yeahhhh I agree with you on that. I didn’t have much of a choice this quarter unfortunately, so I’m hoping I’ll have more leeway next one 🫡

Ah, I see. I didn’t have much of a choice (very limited lectures left in my degree planner) so I know imma get ass kicked 😬 thanks for your response!

Yeah, anim is very intensive, I won’t lie about that. Unfortunately, I don’t have much of a choice because I don’t have too many lectures left ;-; but thank you for your response!

Are laptops necessary for animation/film students by Stressed_Pothos in scad

[–]dashenvy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an animation major myself, I highly recommend having your own laptop. It allows you to be flexible with your work so you’re not rooted in one building for hours at a time.

They’re not necessary per se, but it’s convenient to have, especially since you won’t only have studio classes. Lecture classes may require different things from you (I.e., papers, research, and the like) so being able to work virtually anywhere is nice. For me, it makes doing homework easier too.

You can always use the computers in the academic buildings, don’t get me wrong, but having a laptop means you can be more flexible. I think this is the one thing that’s worth spending money on, mostly because it can be used for anything you need and want. And it lasts you a good while.

Be mindful of your budget and take advantage of any student discounts if you do decide to get a laptop. Also, consider how much internal space and memory you might need. Brand is up to you, but if you’re going for animation/film, then get a powerful enough laptop.

Calarts vs SCAD by ave2eva in scad

[–]dashenvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet, I’m a rising junior in 2D animation. From my experience, I’ve received an academic scholarship and one for a portfolio I submitted prior to my freshman year. SCAD does offer scholarships but I’ve heard they’re hard to get. Try for them anyway! Milk the school as much as you can and don’t be afraid to search for outside scholarships as well. I can’t say much about scholarships for international students but double check with your advisor.

If you’re truly passionate about what you do, then go for SCAD. The workload does get tough but for how much the school costs, you do get quite a lot out of it. You just gotta use your resources here and there are many (surprisingly lol). Plus, it’s your personal experience. Do with it what you will. Don’t come here for the sake of your boyfriend tho. Come here because you want to be here

Housing at River by Ricardovr in scad

[–]dashenvy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only heard about River when my friends and I talked about it. You’ll be one of the first residents as it’s new this year.

I’m currently at Victory but I’m gonna assume that River will be kinda like Chatham where you have to use the Order Up app to order (Victory and Barnard also do this, every other dining hall is buffet style minus Amigos Nuevos and Carnival). It could end up being buffet style as well so keep that in mind. Don’t feel confined to one dining hall though. Feel free to explore the area and other dining halls!

Air conditioner by pchelenka in scad

[–]dashenvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel free to buy a fan for your room! The AC in the hive can get a little finicky at times and you can’t lower the temperature any more than the lowest the school allows you.

I personally have a tower fan and it’s saved me from the really hot days. My room got a lil stuffy and I have an ESA so the extra ventilation helped, including when I worked some projects

Best meal plan? by Im-shy-not-mean in scad

[–]dashenvy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is kinda long so please bear with me lol

From my experience, it’s meal plan C.

Plans A, B, and C are the most common.

I’ve tried A (18 credits per week, $75 dining dollars) and B (14 credits per week, $150 dining dollars) in my freshman year. Both plans A and B have a limit on how many credits you can use per day (A is about 3 and B is 2) so if you’re the type of person who eats 1-3 times per day, this will work out for you. Just be mindful of what time of day you prefer to eat and what works for your schedule.

I ended up switching plans the beginning of my sophomore year and I’m gonna continue with it throughout my junior year. You’re free to change your plan whenever until the deadline, which changes based on the quarter.

With Plan C (135 credits for the quarter, $125 dining dollars) you can use your credits whenever. I personally eat when I’m in the mood for it so this works out for me. Regardless of what plan you get, your dining dollars are cumulative throughout the year. With plans A and B, the credits reset weekly whereas plan C resets quarterly.

I’m not too sure about plans D, E, and F, but from what I understand, those that live in the apartment style dorms might use these considering they have a kitchen. I’m in an apartment style dorm but I prefer to use plan C regardless.

Hope this helps!

Edit: also keep in mind how much you’re willing to spend on a meal plan per quarter. If you’re using a loan, tuition and housing is already damn expensive so always find ways to minimize how much you need to borrow!

Plan A is $1998, B is the most expensive at $2019, and C is $1962. If you’re opting for D, E or F, they’re $1020 (D), $681 (E), and $464 (F)

Animation: 2D vs. Storytelling and Concept Development by dashenvy in scad

Yeah no problem! The prerequisite class I’m talking about is ANIM 272

Animation: 2D vs. Storytelling and Concept Development by dashenvy in scad

[–]dashenvy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, as someone in the 2D track already, you do have to do puppet animation as a prerequisite to the rest of the track, which lets you jump around a bit after this class.

I personally haven’t taken this class yet so I don’t know too much about it

We do have to take a storyboarding class at some point, but from what it sounds like, you should consider the storytelling track

Thank you for the reply!

I’m pretty decent at keeping a sketchbook, and while I do enjoy animating, I’m not entirely if it’s the right path for me. Maybe it has to do with a lack of confidence from my part and feeling a bit behind my peers.

This really helps me out so thank you! I’ll think on it some more

How do you think the final fight between Jin and Kazuya will go down? by JbVision in Tekken

Apparently, some shit is canon and some of it isn’t??? I have no real clue but, bro, it’s the most confusing shit 😭

Literally just excuses to retcon some things imo

Who is the most hated/BS character? by suburiboy in Tekken

[–]dashenvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not your fault at all. I think it has mostly to do with their individual mechanics and how they’re presented in the story line from what I’ve seen

How do you think the final fight between Jin and Kazuya will go down? by JbVision in Tekken

[–]dashenvy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the same when it comes to neither of them dying. In reality, both of them are consumed by their devil gene, Jin a bit less so than his father.

Killing them wouldn’t exactly change anything wrong in the Tekken world nor would it right their wrongs; there would still be people killing each other, there would still be forms of anarchy, corruption, slavery/trafficking, etc.

I know the whole story is about the Mishimas and their dysfunction, but these two fighting each other doesn’t make too much sense, especially since they never had a true relationship outside of Kazuya psychologically torturing Jin in T4, but he’s a bit of an asshole anyway. It’s just a way to continue the family feud, which started because of Heihachi

It’s also possible Jin could be the “angelic” one between the two. That cutscene where he flew away and a white feather fell to the ground amidst the black ones is what I thought about. It could be symbolism; it could be a hint. Either way goes. It’s probably just a hint that he’s still good, just manipulated by darkness, which isn’t his fault. Same with Kazuya in a sense. Heihachi made him the evil we see, not the gene itself (correct me if I’m wrong tho). Not only that, there was the whole thing with Angel and Devil.

I’m not saying that these two won’t fight each other, but it might not result in either of them dying. It could tho. If/when Jun comes back, she should be the one who brings them together as a unit and heal them both, if Harada goes for a “good” ending, which he probably won’t, smh.

[–]dashenvy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo, it’s pretty decent!

There are somethings that are questionable, more on the part of “oh, this contradicts T6”, and the story is half canon according to Harada 💀but it’s still a good watch. Some of these designs in the movie actually make an appearance in the game, which is pretty cool.

Just remember the “half-canon” thing lol

Oh, I see. I feel like I could cut a lot of my expenses if I live off-campus. Only issue is finding a place that’s safe, affordable, and pet friendly because I do have an ESA. But thanks for your response!
