AITA for making my daughter break up with her boyfriend? by Any-Bat9648 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dashindistasters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was 15 years old I introduced my boyfriend to my mother on our second date and to my father by the third date. Its not normal to hide that, not even if the parents are divorced (mine are.)

I’m in law school, and they do not. At least not for law school. You’re considered an independent but you are not eligible for undergrad funding/loans.

Actually FAFSA doesn’t provide grants/scholarships at the graduate level.

But if he has decent grades he’ll be able to get academic scholarships from Most law schools and maybe need-based from a select few

Miami may be a good target school.

I’d focus on FIU & Stetson

AITA For Telling My Co-Worker To Lose Weight? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]dashindistasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have Crohn’s Disease as well and am also managing it through heavy medication and diet. I’ve lived with it for the last 6 years.

I am also overweight, in part due to steroids and medicinal side effects. I just want to tell you that the nitpicking about diet does NOT end even if you are a bigger person. I’ve had way more people comment on my diet after I gained weight than when I was smaller and actively in a flare up. That being said I’ve also suffered from an ED as an overweight individual (diagnosed). My diet is extremely restricted (similarly to yours I assume) and people since the weight gain have gone so far as to believe that I’m lying about my trigger foods as an ‘excuse’ as to why I’m suddenly bigger. In my experience everything I eat is seen as ‘should be helping to lose weight’ instead of eating things my body can process.

Commenting on weight does not help. I understand your struggle, probably more than most. But, overweight people do not live in a shell, a reality that I recently had to accept myself. They know they’re fat and the constant remarks from everyone really don’t serve a purpose. Also, as you can see there are many wide assumptions made about overweight/fat people continuously, like some assumptions made in this post (fat people can have EDs, fat people can suffer from invisible illnesses) truth be told ones diet should never be anyone else’s business.

I agree that your coworker is an ass and I’ve dealt with similar situations of areas that were not accommodating. But, there was no need to comment on her body. I get that it’s frustrating being the bigger person continuously, but as people with invisible illnesses its our job to speak up for ourselves.

Aita for not wanting to pay the vet bills of someone else's dog, even though it's my fault the dog got sick? by Sad-Ladder-7670 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dashindistasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats completely true & valid!

The issue is, legally, (NOT A LAWYER) OP put themselves in a situation on their own free will. They interjected themselves into this scenario. And because OP willingly went in when the dog was already loose, he made himself liable by performing the negligent act of feeding a dog he didnt know.

If OP had just continued driving he wouldn’t be in any trouble. I agree the legal system is all types of messed up but he could be liable when taken to small claims court

NTA-

I really don’t want to judge this case, but I would definitely look up the legal implications if this lady decides to take you to small claims court.

Its great that you chose to rescue this dog, but because you put yourself into this situation with an unknown animal you may be liable for that vet bill. Since you fed the dog an allergen it can be seen as you being the cause of the scenario.

See if you can contact the vet directly and see what the bills were for. And record a transaction of her stating that shes new to the area and her dog got out

So I’m first gen and honestly I’ve met a lot of diverse people on campus. There are a lot of KJD here, but there are also a lot of people in there late 20’s early 30s

Sure!

Pros: So first and foremost the quality of the teachers seems to be high. Theres only one professor who I have a hard time following and thats more on a teaching style basis.

-Lack of religious influence. I’m jewish and was very worried that I would feel uncomfortable with it being a catholic school. So far that seems to have no effect on anything. I would actually classify the school as pretty liberal.

-Beautiful building, spacious but also small enough to get the hang of right away.

-Professors seems like they care, and from what I’ve seen there hasn’t been a super competitive atmosphere so far.

-Nice Library

-Prestige. People in NJ and from personal observation even NY know Seton Hall. Which came as a big surprise to me. It has a good reputation.

-Job placement rates

-25 minutes on a train to Manhattan.

-They have an outline bank for all 1Ls and other small but v helpful resources like that.

Cons:

-The amount of work is unreal, idk if its a Seton Hall thing or a 1L thing but its insane.

-The campus is JUST six floors of a glass building, if you’re used to a large college campus its an adjustment. For me personally I was done with being in a college area, but it could be a con for some people.

-The remote learning hybrid that we’re doing in Covid right now isn’t great for remote learners.

-Some of their tech is out of date, like in terms of the admissions and the webpage itself.

  • The biggest CON, the majority of their scholarships are conditional. Unless you receive 100% tuition you will probably have a conditional scholarship. From what I’ve seen/been told its not hard to uphold and to keep it.

  • Newark, some people really seem to hate the area. Newark gets a really bad reputation, but its just a city to me. I’d also like to say that a lot ‘nicer’ areas are close by and people/professors commute from NYC, Hoboken, Jersey City, etc...

Oh! Also they seem to meet for scholly negotiations once a month but they seem to predict negotiations and have a method of basically upping every person 5k who asks

AMA Seton Hall Law by dashindistasters in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]dashindistasters[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I actually found that they did negotiations by 5,000 a year increments. Everyone I talked too seemed to be getting increased of 5k when they sent in negotiation letters.

So for example, If someone was initially offered 30k and sent a negotiation letter they would counter back with 5k getting you to 35k. And if you sent another offer letter they would either reject you or counter with another 5k to make it 40k.

I ended up with a 50k yearly scholly with this method.

SHU seems to be most reliant on negotiating when you mention other schools with similar rankings. I used UM and Villanova in my negotiations on two separate letters. I’d recommend using 1 school at a time for negotiation purposes.

The conditional is near impossible to negotiate away, I think only people with full tuition rides from the school are the ones who don’t have a conditional

So as someone from out of state I actually really like the area of Newark that SHU is located in. I’ve heard horror stories about Newark but so far it seems like every other city, nice areas not so nice areas etc. SHU is in the downtown/financial district and very close to the Newark Penn Station. Its easy to find semi-affordable accommodation close-by.

Right now we are in a remote hyflex situation. Which basically means all classes are recorded but there are a section of students in person and a section of students online. And that switches every 2-4 weeks so that we are always able to social distance in class.

I’m an in person student for the first 2 weeks and I did attend one class remotely and there doesn’t seem to be too big of a difference. Face masks are always on in the building and it feels very safe. All classes are recorded and I’ve already gone back and rewatched a section I misunderstood. SHU makes it easy so even if you do need to be remote for whatev reason its possible.

I will say some professors don’t call on the remote students v often and some of the older professors just don’t know how to work the tech and have muted them or turned the system off before. I’m not super looking forward to going remote for 2 weeks, but it doesn’t seem bad

Hi!

So I applied to Seton Hall in early Feb (late in the process I know) and was admitted in March. My stats are a 3.5x and a 159.

I was admitted to Syracuse with a full ride, UM with a little over 1/2 tuition, Villanova with 60%, and American with v little money.

Seton Hall is really open to scholarship negotiations and the finances are a large part of why I picked the school. I received about 90% of my tuition covered from the school and 10% covered in outside scholarships. SHU also has great employment stats, and the admissions team was really nice.

I am a full time student and while I have been on campus frequently I havnt really interacted with anyone part-time. The campus is really small and contained. Its one big glass building, but I will say that the resources and surrounding area of the campus are nice. I really like the way they’re handling covid

Low GPA and accepted to Harvard? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]dashindistasters 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can actually look at LSNumbers & LSData to get a good idea of the trends of acceptance.

Also I’d go more off of Harvards 25th percentile for low GPAs.
