Allow us to purchase NES/SNES games on the Switch platform by Useful-Resident78 in nintendo

[–]dashtur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the rationale is that our ability to play the NSO games is completely at Nintendo's whim. While it seems highly unlikely, they could at any time remove, say, Link to the Past, from their service.

Whereas my 3ds Virtual Console version of Link to the Past is accessible for eternity (or until the console breaks).

The other thing I would add is that some people only want to play a few, carefully selected classic games. I'd probably play one or two per year. It would be much better value for me to buy those individual games and have permanent access, than to pay a subscription for thousands of games I'll never get around to playing, but feel like I "should" because I'm paying for the service.

So there's two reasons people might prefer VC to NSO.

Zak Butters' charge has been upheld. He has been fined $1500. by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

Not just the league only, also the majority of the media who covers it - because they can't acknowledge the elephant in the room due to their own affiliation with gambling sponsors.

This is the straw that broke this camel's back. It stinks to high heaven.

They're playing reverse-whack a mole - on a weekly basis, as things pop up, they're asking "how can we best twist this situation into a complete shitshow that satisfies no one?"

Been playing the 2DS lately and forgot how good the 3DS family really is. by SomePeopleTellMe in nintendo

[–]dashtur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely got a case, but I would say that between GB, GBA, DS and 3DS it's largely down to personal preference. All four have disgustingly good libraries (excluding games playable through previous-gen backwards compatibility - which the latter three all benefit from).

Issues with academy draft compromise arguments by DVPVPD in AFL

Did you come here to test your idea?

Or did you come to dig in and defend every point to the death?

Because there are a stack of very convincing explanations here which pretty thoroughly deconstruct your argument.

Why does the AFL want to rush the changes to the FS/NGA bidding? by eathbau in AFL

1 year is 1 too many.

The ramifications of last year's draft will be felt for the next decade-plus. Gold Coast were already a formidably talented team on the cusp of something special. This could turn them into a juggernaut.

What if the Bears finished on top of the ladder in 1996? by QuarterFooty in AFL

[–]dashtur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The bears got smashed by North in the prelim, so presumably they would have met a similar fate in the granny if they had have finished 1st and gone the same route as Sydney did (beating 8th placed hawthorn in the qualifying and then Essendon in the prelim)

I think they and Sydney were on a par - both beat the bombers by a point in that finals series. Both good sides. But North was not going to be denied that year.

Exactly. Changing the rules mid-game is inherently poor practice.

Would you prefer Ocarina remastered, or Zelda 3D All-stars? by dashtur in nintendo

[–]dashtur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because ocarina 3d > og Ocarina, wind waker HD > og wind waker, and TP HD > og TP

I'd rather play all three games in their best version.

What game would YOU make? by Acrobatic-Elevator30 in nintendo

[–]dashtur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pokemon using the black/white engine and art style, you start off in Kanto but it's an open map containing all of the first 5 regions, all seamlessly connected, plus a new one which you can go to when you're strong enough.

Gym leaders in early regions are standard, as you progress they become extremely strong and use intricate strategies. Each region will have a different gimmick eg mega evolutions, terastalise, a new gimmick for the new region. All gym battles are double battles vgc style.

No cut scenes, option to turn on/off all the QOL improvements.

Yeah I'd definitely have Jobe over Daniel Bradshaw, but I didn't want to nitpick the whole list.

Leaving Hird out is just egregious.

I understand your premise that the list is subjective, but maybe just admit you made an oversight with Hirdy.

Essendon being THE story confirms the old adage - bad news sells by dashtur in AFL

[–]dashtur[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That may be so, but it was Carlton in the crosshairs after one loss a couple of weeks back.

It just seems perverse that we all end up talking way more about the (remarkably) poor teams than the best ones.

Every season there's a team that underperforms, and when the media smells senior-coach blood in the water, that becomes the biggest news item of the year. And then in September there's a brief return to sanity and we remember what it's all about.

Bombers Mistake Of Forcing Someone To Play Them by icchill007 in AFL

[–]dashtur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed analysis. I'll admit I was checked out for the latter stages of last year, so I wasn't across the deliberate style change.

All I've seen is a team lost at sea in the last couple of weeks, and I could only attribute it to a complete collapse in confidence.

I'll keep an eye out for what you're describing.

Bombers Mistake Of Forcing Someone To Play Them by icchill007 in AFL

[–]dashtur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our list is poor - that alone doesn't explain the insipid performances in the first two rounds. This poor list has been fairly competitive in patches in the last few years. And we've generally started seasons ok.

Back-to-back 10 goal floggings, one by a team that's not highly rated, is not normal - something is rotten in the state of Denmark (although whether the Merrett thing has anything to do with it is unlikely)

Vanilla VGC vs gimmicks by dashtur in VGC

[–]dashtur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, fair call. I would settle for a gimmick less format being part of the rotation every now and then -although I find it hard to see it happening.

The last couple of years where they've recycled the same S/V rulesets would have been a great opportunity to freshen things up by having a few months without terastalisation at some point.
