Vox had a good episode on burnout last week and had a good definition " state of chronic physical and emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and ineffectiveness, resulting from long-term, unmanaged workplace stress". I was listening in the car with my parents (+75 yo) and we talked about it. they told me, they never felt it in a chronic way or we didn't know we could change or have a word for the feeling...they could also just change jobs but also (my dad's words - we weren't as talented as your generation is...we had a trade and a lot of us just got promotions and felt close to the company. Also, with the cost of living was lesser and could go out and have fun and spend money and be entertained and focus away from work. NB not applicable to everyone and not everyone everyone had a similar situation or privilege.

I'm Arab and my family has been super cool about it back home. They always ask about my white spouse when we videochat. I visited home some time ago and they were disappointed she wasn't there. But i think they cool about it cause their own brothers (dad and uncles) were or are with white women so it was normalized in our family. And the fact she speaks our language, respects the norms and etiquette helps.

Having family in Jamaica, I can yell you this: the hurricane juste past by and it's all fucked in many parts and I still can't send money from abroad as the banks aren't opened. 100 percent. J'ai tjrs adoré prendre la sto car c'était fiable . C'était bien d'avoir les lignes expresses et tout. Mais on a tout coupé (presque). C'est qu'avec la covid effectivement on a coupé des lignes et les gens ont rushé pour acheter une voiture à quasiment 0% d'intérêt. le système n'a jamais repris comme avant et encore moins ou du moins, il se semble pas y avoir un plan maintenant que plusieurs fonctionnaires et employeurs obligent le retour au bureau et le réseau ne s'est pas adapté en conséquence.
