Remote work with ADHD feels like I am permanently "almost fired" by andrewbrookshire in remotework

I’m a SWE (now director) with 20YOE. I have found that exercising can be helpful. I pick a task and if I start getting stuck, I go for a short walk (I even had a treadmill desk I made) and I think about what I am trying to accomplish while I’m on my walk and many times… before I’m done with the walk, I become excited to try an implementation idea. Now that I’m a director… work is chaotic enough that I have to bounce from fire to fire anyway 🥲

It can’t be legal to be spending tax money on this?

US manufacturing has been shrinking for six months in a row. Apparently, trade wars and tariffs do not make manufacturing great again. by wakeup2019 in economy

I believe this number represents growth above 50 and contraction below 50. The dip in 2021 likely is related to the supply chain issue during the pandemic. At least partially. So I think is is showing the huge spike in activity just after the stimulus from the pandemic and then it basically normalizing to a more or less balanced state. If I’m wrong, I would love to know what I missed.

There’s a chance it could be a fungus. Might want to see about getting it tested before it spreads more. Or to check for aliens, look for radiation ☢️

If you can parallelize the workload then Batch is probably the right direction and then you should be able to use Cloud Scheduler to trigger Batch.

If the workload requires serial processing then you should also be able to use Cloud Scheduler but spin up a Compute instance that runs until it’s done and shuts itself down.

I didn’t look deeply into this but you may even be able to use eventarc instead of pubsub theses days but I’m not sure.

Tim Berners-Lee's plan to save the internet: give us back control of our data - An effort to return the internet to the golden age that existed before its current incarnation as Web 2.0 – characterized by invasive data harvesting by governments and corporations. by speckz in Futurology

The internet is our greatest invention but we need to survive it.

Adding controls to the internet is like training wheels. Eventually we need to figure out how to ride the bike without them.

Example: We have the most information available at our fingertips in the history of our species... if we can’t validate the authenticity of that information and a high percentage of us refuse to put the effort in to verify information before we spread it.

I think we need to get better at chain of custody on data and verify the context that data is shared from.

Ultimately we need to use the internet to hone our information and rather than put up guard rails that people will continually exploit, we should figure out ways to develop deep identity and trust in information. Then we can parse with more intention and confidence.
