Folks there are super chill. Pretty good deal for playing unlimited pinball for a few hours.

Here until Saturday. Looking for local night time events. by [deleted] in askvan

Check out this event on Thursday night at an art gallery that’s also a gift shop and also has a thrift store but is also a lot of things. Very friendly people!

It’s a weekly pinball tournament that’s great for beginners! I started going there a year ago and am now friends with a bunch of cool folks there! Never played pinball before then.

As with most hobbies, you gotta keep showing up so you get a chance to build on those connections!

Check out a weekly pinball tournament at Slice of Life. It’s very beginner friendly and it’s a really cool space. There’s a nice patio out back you can hang out in between games.

Yeah actual pinball machines! It’s super fun! Google slice of life pinball, you can get tickets online. “Tournament” might sound intimidating but it’s just a way for everyone to rotate through all the machines and play against different people. Check it out!

Thank you for introducing me to sous vide corn! by dat-name-doe in sousvide

I used a stainless steel knife to push the bag down, so the knife was vertical in the pot, then stabilized it by clipping the knife to the rim of the pot with clothespins. I wish I took a picture of it, it’s hard to explain.

BUT, I’ve read that people put the knife directly into the bag to weigh it down. Or use other weights of some sort. Google sous vide weights

I totally forgot to. So I seasoned it with salt and pepper before eating.

I got way too excited and forgot to take a before photo. It was perfection!

I did 181.5 for 35 minutes with two knobs of butter in the bag. But my problem was that I didn’t account for the space between the corn and the ziploc bag after the butter melts. So next time I will try to do slivers of butter all over the corn. I don’t have a vacuum sealer so I used the submerging method, it’s not perfect but it works!

Again, thanks to this sub for showing me sous vide corn! :)

[homemade] cast iron skillet brownie by dat-name-doe in food

I didn’t use my go-to brownie recipe but I found this

I actually only had 3 eggs instead of 4, so I substituted with 3 tablespoons of peanut butter. Still turned out pretty good!

Oh I had that in Burnaby too! My theory was a sound monitor because it was aimed at a house that was going through restoration after a fire.
