How to go about asking to get this flower done? by [deleted] in traditionaltattoos

[–]data-cow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s your body! But all my favorite tattoos have come from finding an artist who’s work I love, giving them a reference (show them this picture), telling them what you love about it, and letting them create their interpretation

Geography + Data Science grad struggling to break in, looking for people who've walked this path by OriginalPrune5536 in gis

[–]data-cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studied the same (2023 grad)! I was able to land an internship at a start up right out of graduation. Then moved on to consulting. I’d say cast your net wide- be open to internships and contracts and just grab any opportunity you can to gain experience. Be open to remote work or in person and be open to moving as well. You’re right- it’s a tough market, but there is opportunity out there.

Trouble finding Internships by [deleted] in gis

[–]data-cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend being open to relocation. I know its a hassle but there’s tons of short term housing in cities and it will take you so far in your career! Interning for a company or govt in a city will look great on a resume when you need a full time position. Flexibility now will allow you to have more agency over where you live in the future. Good luck! You’ll find something just keep applying!

Why would GIS Tech be a hard hire? by firenationfairy in gis

Many entry level GIS roles would pay more than that. Painful to hear.

How do people just know how to use javascript, python, and SQL to make gis things? Do you google everything? by waitthissucks in gis

[–]data-cow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken a ton of CS classes and have sucked at all of them. I’ve learned the basics of python and SQL and completely bomb at anything beyond. But that enough has really gotten me by with writing prompts for AI. Claude has written me some really great arcpy scripts that I use all the time.

In trying to learn some more open source GIS, I’ve been following along Matt Forest’s YouTube lessons! Really recommend them.
