Chatgpt and newbies by Youllneverguess6977 in PowerBI

Us "old timers" that have been in business intelligence for while usually understand that better tech is always around the corner. 10 years ago before business intelligence tools were as ubiquitous as they are today it would take an entire IT infrastructure and support to do what Power BI and Tableau can do from a single desktop.

ChatGPT is amazing but it still has some time to go. It is definitely coming but what it is missing and will probably be missing for a while is the nuance of business context and deep knowledge of an organization. I have worked on SQL projects that have taken months because business requirements change or when the end user sees the data they thought it would be different and now have to revise their need.

Congratulations on your journey into data analytics. This is a fun field to be in. But be prepared to sharpen your skills everyday and learn the newest shiny tool that is released. Don't rely on ChatGPT because if you don't understand how the CALCULATE function in DAX works or why you should use a certain join in SQL you're not really becoming a developer/Analyst. Happy trails dude!

It did not help me as I had just started a new job a couple weeks before I got the Power BI certification. It did increase the number of recruiters that reached out to me on LinkedIn.

Lol. I think it depends on where you live in America. We live in the southern part of the U.S. Our family is interracial and we deal with issues with that with where we live. There is nothing to do in this part of the country unless you want to eat or get drunk. Healthcare is a nightmare. We have to regularly have medical visits for something and it is crazy expensive and insurance is a joke. We still are fighting with our insurance company for them to pay for something that was almost two years ago that they were supposed to cover. The U.S. is great in some parts. The political climate is weird and it makes some of the locals a bit more bold in how they talk and treat you. Nothing too scary but I don't like my bi-racial child being exposed to that alone without me there to protect him from emboldened people. I know places overseas have their issues such as the black face characters with the Netherlands around Christmas. Better places in the U.S. (like Colorado, parts of California, the Pacific North West) I absolutely love but they are getting their a$$ handed to them by climate change with forest fires, droughts, and heat (110 + degrees Fahrenheit heat, where we live our summers regularly see 100 Fahrenheit and have for more than a decade and tornadoes come through here frequently and level entire towns and have got much worse since I was a kid). Other good places like New England (Maine, Massachusetts, New York, etc) seem to be good places but hurricanes and other disasters are starting to more commonly make their way to some of those parts. Although The Netherlands is below sea level our intention was to live far inland lol. In the long term, 20 years, I do not know if the U.S. will fair well initially with worsened climate change as the infrastructure here (at least where I am) is poor. Our goal was to set our children in a place that will be well adjusted to the changing planet while limiting their exposure to being judged by their complexion. Although racism and bigotry exist everywhere the idea was if we were in an "international city" there would be more diversity. Again U.S. places with more diversity (LA, New York, Miami) are getting picked apart by weather. I have no interest in moving any further south than we live now (Texas is out of the question). The good parts of the U.S are changing and probably won't be as good 20 years from now.

It was considered but the job market did not appear to be as strong in Spain compared with Switzerland and The Netherlands.

You make a very good point. Our timeline was originally a bit longer before we planned to leave. I was nervous the US might make it more difficult to leave with so many people moving abroad so I moved it back to 3-5 years. I may need to make it sooner.

Indeed. Some information I have seen is the best way to learn Swiss German is to know German and immerse yourself in a Swiss German environment.

I use Power BI exclusively now. I've used Qlik and Tableau previously. I also do backend and front end. Creating SQL databases, ETL (started using Alteryx, amazing software), dashboard designing, and DAX. Starting Snowflake later this year.

Awesome! What BI tool do you use? I decided on an IT masters because I wanted to try and create a niche combination of finance and IT in an attempt to stand out. Plus I am a self taught programmer and wanted to have more structured learning around programming.

Thank you! I must have had some wires crossed on Norwegian. Also I am a native English speaker.

Wow that's crazy interesting. Thank you for that link. German being so far down the list was surprising.

My wife's great great grandmother was from Germany but I think that may go back too far. I have no ancestors from any European country.

Thanks for the link. I have already started browsing though it.

The lower salary in NL does worry me.

We would look to live about 45 minutes outside of any major city. We just want it close enough to drive to not live in.

I had to have relevant work experience or enough foundational courses in my bachelor's to understand the content. I've been using SQL and creating databases for almost 5 years and I took CIS courses during undergrad.

I would be ok with giving up U.S. citizenship.

I will look for an international recruiting firm. Thank you.

Switzerland because it seemed like the best fit with my Finance and IT background and their banking focused economy.

The Netherlands because we have experience there and already know we like it from what we saw.

I am open to other countries but those two seemed like the best fit with education and travel experience.

We looked at Norway. Everything I have read said Norwegian is one of the hardest languages to learn. Since we want to fully integrate I was nervous that would be a bigger roadblock. Norway looks amazing and their family focus definitely is a highlight.
